Track is always smoother with apple workout app. But at the end, the results are equivalent with WOD.
I think apple does more smoothing when storing the track and WOD is more "raw"

True. But it was also more wobbly than previous WOD runs on the same track.

I have submitted this issue to Apple support.
I have been contacted by a senior advisor and I have sent them some syslog files for analyze and some screenshots from my inaccurate runs.
Maybe you can try on your side, if they have more cases, maybe they will investigate further...

I also sent to Apple support some weeks ago, though the feedback form.
How did you sent?

The feedback is useless.
I have sent a DM with twitter on "Apple support"
You can also open a case with support.

They will probably as you if you have unpaired/paired your watch as a new Watch...

Following advice from Apple support I unpaired/paired. Well sucks big time, all my settings in WOD are gone and all my podcasts in Overcast are missing now.

Thanks. Too late but good to know.
Thought I get a full restore of my AW. Very ****** implementation from Apple, even paired sensors were lost. Not consistent at all.

After the unpair/repair procedure my first run had a very good track quality. Would say, it was the best so far on this route. Could all be random, who knows.

My last run was also perfect with LTE ON (12km trail).
The difference : I have put the WIFI OFF in apple watch settings
Same as you: maybe it's just luck ...

Apple support will call me back on Wednesday.

I switch off WiFi always on my runs to be sure to be disconnected from my iPhone entirely.

Next outdoor run on Friday, on business travel and will run only on treadmill.

No.
But you said you disable wifi to avoid connection to your phone ... that's why ...

No, I only do this procedure to avoid that my AW is connected to my iPhone and maybe using the iPhone's GPS when I start.
My procedure is always: disable Bluetooth on iPhone, disable WiFi on AW, wait for GPS reception is at least 4/5 (blue) in WOD.

I have done another run with LTE ON end WIFI OFF last night and the tracking was good.
Since I have disabled wifi in apple watch settings (not in the dock shortcuts menu) it seems to be cleaner ...
I will try to confirm this in my next runs.

Run today under two bridges (back and forth) was also very smooth. One very minor glitch I would not notice if I did not check the track pixel by pixel.

On todays run I had three major hiccups. LTE was on, was using Apple Workouts and had Bluetooth and WiFi disconnected. So unpairing/repairing did not fix it.

First: good luck for your race. Keeping my fingers pressed!

And second: no, definitely switch off LTE as this is currently my number 1 suspect.

Just look at these two hiccups (had straight lines without LTE):
