I have a bunch of 10+ year old AVI footage and the files are huge. What is the best way for me to convert them to a modern file format? and which format/settings should I use?

I was thinking MOV or MP4?
thanks in advance!

MOV and MP4 is just a container for the video. Its more about what kind of compression you can live with. Less space less quality. Makes a bigger difference if you intend to do any editing down the line. There are some general guidelines that can reduce space with minimum quality impact, and quality is subjective, but now days storage is so cheap, why bother?
