finding out who hosts a website

Is it possible to find out what company is hosting a website?

My family's business website was built years ago, and then neglected. They still own the domain, and the site is still up.

They want to rebuild the site now, but after two office moves, can't find any of the records of who is hosting the thing.

Is there any way to find out?

Yes. Run a WHOIS search and check the DNS addresses (a set of 4 addresses usually something like, ns1.hostingcompany.com).

You could do a whois search and see where the DNS records point to and perhaps there is a Technical Contact showing the company name/address.

In terminal - 'whois yoursite.com'

Good idea using the Terminal. You could also use Network Utility if you want a GUI driven app.

Just to confirm it is PowWeb in case you are not 100% sure. They don't seem to have very good reviews though so you may want to consider changing hosts.
