It looks like we are getting our first look at the rumored Moto Razr that will be foldable. As a fan of the original Moto Razr, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what this phone will be like. What do you think? Instant buy or likely wait a few generations for things to mature?

I'd have to see it completely open, but I think the Galaxy Fold is far more likely to be the future than this.

For one thing, the complaint about large phones i'm most familiar with is "it's too big for my hand" not "it's too big to fit in my pocket"

I just hope they don't put a GARBAGE camera in it.
That would be the one thing that would instantly make it a no-buy for so many people.

I've long wanted a modern interpretation of a flip phone (or even just original 3.5" iPhone size) device that can run modern apps but still has a reasonably good camera (not looking for miracles, just not something that would be on a 2010 device).

Us SE users value small size, pocket ability, light weight, etc... but we do still occasionally want to look something up, hail a ride, message, call, check a score on the go, etc.

We need an "iPhone Air" basically -- maybe something like this RAZR next gen could be it?

The more Apple refuses to ever do anything "small" again, the more I longingly gaze at other options as time goes on.

You're probably right, but one never knows when something could change or truly surprise on the other side of the mobile landscape...always possible..

That's the exact opposite of recent discussions I've had with others who, like me, don't like the trend toward taller devices. The complaint I hear most often is people can't fit tall phones in jeans pockets or purse/handbag pockets.

I don't know if the foldable Razr is the future, or if it will be any more popular than the Fold, but I certainly look forward to having some options in the future that are more pocket-friendly.

$1,500??!! yikes! So basically you’d be paying for the folding tech. The low end processor and camera would be a no go for that amount of money. I guess we’d have to wait for the folding technology to mature before we see reasonably priced devices. The folding tech on this Motorola is nice though.

Honestly the OG Razer was one of my favorite phones. This new one looks amazing! Great functionality from what I can see. Love the little display when it is closed.
But from the Verge review the camera is subpar and the processor is not up to flagship specs to be honest. Especially when you factor in the $1500 price!

I hated the original RAZR anyway, I was one of the few who really disliked it... so this does nothing for me.

I dunno. I just don't think folding phones are anyway near ready for prime time yet.

Not sure why so many are hung up on specs, many like tech and styling and only use a 10th of their device potential

Absolutely brilliant work by Motorola, that folding mechanism seems to be the best around, minimal crease and no hole when closed.

This seems to be a device built for mass appeal much like the OG RAZR V3 which had average specs at best in its time yet sold for smartphone prices.

I mean we had phones such as the:
Sony Ericsson P910
Sony Ericsson K700 and S700
Nokia 7610
Nokia 6630
Palm Treo 650

That came out that year, all incredibly powerful devices, that had bells & whistles that the V3 only wished it had, yet it moved in huge numbers.

If Motorola and Verizon can do with this what they did with Moto DROID campaign, they may be in for another big win here. It’s all going to be up to marketing it now.

This phone could do for Foldables what the DROID did for Android back in 2009.

This seems to be the first truly “mass ready” Foldable, it even has Splash protection.

Yeah, I can just see Flossy's review. It's either going to be:

1) This is the ultimate flex phone, all you peasants need to sit down
2) For $1500 should you buy this phone? Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell no.

I think this phone is awesome but would never pay more than $500 for something like this. Maybe it'll sell terribly forcing Moto to drop the price by $1000, haha.
