Getting a VHS tape to iMovie???

Hi, a friend wants to use some old footage on VHS to make a rough cut of some event. Os it possible to transfer the VHS to the Mac and then to iMovie to make a cut?? Thanks very much....uf anyone can help it would be great...he's waiting by the phone...LOL!
He's a PC guy...I said the Mac can do it...hope I wasen't out of line!

i know a sony media converter cna do the job
i used mine to do it
but i dont need it any more
im sure there are other options out there though
but the media converter worked fine
