So.

I have a Mid 2007 Macbook.
Model Identifier: Macbook 2,1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz
Memory: 4Gb
Hard Drive: 320Gb
Graphics: Intel GMA 950

If your specs look accordingly, this should work with a breeze.
I also believe this should work on the Mac Mini 2, 1.

So first things first.

Prerequisites:
1. An unsupported Mac.
2. SFOTT Beta [download] [mirror]
3. A USB Drive (8GB or more).
4. OS X Yosemite.app (make sure this is 10.10 and not 10.10.5 for example)

Prepare your USB device for Yosemite:

Visit: 128keaton's awesome written guide on how to prepare your USB flash drive.

or

Visit: clyde gallagher's awesome video guide on how to prepare your USB flash drive.

Installing:

This part should be pretty explanatory, but if you insist..
Once you have prepared your USB drive with Yosemite, all you need to do is restart your system, and hold down the option key until you get and option showing to select either your Hard Drive or the prepared Yosemite installer.
Select the installer, and use diskpart to format the hard drive before installing.

Getting everything working:

Everything should work for the most part out of the box other than Graphics and Audio.
We are going to fix that...

Download the graphics and drivers here or here.
Once you have them unpack them.
1. Install the VoodooHDA.pkg
2. Open Kext Utility and wait until its done loading.
3. Drag and drop the files that are in the Graphics folder into Kext Utility and wait until it is done.
4. Drag and drop the files in the Audio folder into Kext Utility.
5. Wait until it is done processing everything, and Quit the application and restart your Mac.

After this.. Everything should be good to go.
Enjoy and I hope you are able to give your Mac an extended life.

Hi garretts228,

I think your post is pretty clear. I like your post. I like the zipped package containing every thing one needs to get Video, Sound and Wifi running again. Many thanks for that.

Lately, I decided to buy a Mac. And since mid Feb 2016 I own a Mac Mini mid 2007 (macmini2,1). A second hand one. While working with Lion, I discovered it's not supported any more and looking for a way to get it running on a newer version of OS X, I stumbled upon SFOTT. I decided to give it a try.
The mini had an 80 GB hard drive, which I saved and laid aside so, when in trouble, I could go back to the original OS X Lion. I build in a 120 GB drive, but I didn't manage to get it working with Yosemite. I attached a 160GB drive to the mac and I managed to get it installed with Yosemite. I also upgraded it to 10.10.5. After that Audio, Video and WiFI didn't work anymore.
Yesterday I joined macrumors. I read so much information on this site and it helped me a lot. But, yesterday, after reading post #369 I screwed up my yosemite install. I think I missed a step somewhere and left me with a mac that wouldn't boot anymore. I tried booting with shift key pressed, with command-s. I booted from the internal disk and tried to repair and undo the steps inputs #369. Finally, I got it back by pressing command-s while booting from the recovery partition.

I had sound (Voodoo), but very low. Wifi does not recognize my SSID. Actually, while scanning, it find nothing and I know there are several SSIDs in the neighborhood. I tried to use your post and give it a try.

I followed your instruction. Sound and Video are working again but WiFi does not find any SSIDs. Could it be it does not work on a macmini2,1? I hardly found any posts on mac mini's. Video is working fine, like in Lion.

Cheers

I wish I could help troubleshoot, but I don't have a mini to test on. I do know the Minis came with two different wifi cards. You could try opening it up, and ordering the alternate one that came in it.

My 2,1 is running W10 Pro right now, I might have to give this a go.
I had a Solid State Drive in mine, and it ran beautifully. It's an old Machine, so don't expect 1080p YouTube videos by any means, but for the Pros and Cons of having newer software.. I loved Yosemite on my 2,1 before coming across a Water damaged 2014 MacBook Air I repaired. I have since sold it with Yosemite installed on it with the SSD for more than I paid for it $100 on Craigslist. Sold for $170

Surprised I never got a single question or feedback on this.
I'm busting a gut waiting to ask someone this question.
I realize this is an old thread, but this is the exact macbook I have. I' m the 2nd owner (technically 3rd, wife had it til she got MBP)and have box and paperwork. Anyhow, I started this project May or June '18 bought SL Then Lion, was going to do Yosemite but hdd crapped out.
Got hdd reloaded used it til july and messed up again. We moved laptop went to storage, finally got it back bought sdd still ?folder. Figured it out as bad logic board and replaced that and here we are. I downloaded yosemite on wifes MBP an made a bootable usb flashdrive. Now that I want to do this I ask.....can I load SFOTT now or is there a way I can put it back in app folder then redo it? Or use it with macpostfactor? Both are without support now. Appreciate any info. I've been skimming all the places they are putting new os on old macs and haven't seen anyone with my delimma.

I never did give this a try, I had ML on mine or W10. I have Tiger running on it right now and it feels like a beast. Was this worth doing to get Yosemite on this machine?

This wouldn't work for a 2007 MacBook 3,1 with the X3100 Graphics now would it?

garretts228, great post! I tried out the steps. Followed them to the letter. However while installing the kexts completes succesfully on my MacBook 2,1, they are not enabled after restart.

I just have "6 MB Graphics" in about this Mac. Any ideas on what's causing this?

Hello guys, I have the exact same hardware specs than @garretts228, Black MacBook, Mid 2007 2.16 Ghz Core 2 Duo. Was able to install Yosemite just fine, but I couldn't get the Audio/Graphics to work! Tried multiple methods to install the Kexts, but no luck.

The cause for the kexts not loading is they need to have a proper digital signature to be loaded in Yosemite and later systems.
You can disable this requirement in Yosemite by launching Terminal and issuing this command:

Code:
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

An administrator password will be needed. Reboot and you should have your acceleration already turned on, if not - reinstall the kexts using the procedure from the OP and only then reboot.

Perhaps a bit late, but I had to upgrade my sister's white Macbook 2,1 and the kexts didn't load for me initially, a quick look into the system logs made me realize it's a signature issue.

hwojtek!!!! That was the final piece of the puzzle!!! You are a real genius! I finally got a 2006 Mac mini 1 1 upgraded to 2 1 running Yosemite 10.10.5 with GMA 950 Graphics (still partial acceleration like it was on Mavericks), WiFi, & audio!

Hi!
Sorry can't get it.
Can I install 10.10.5 directly using SFOTT? Or I need to Install 10.10 first and then perform combo update?

I've just tried to install clean 10.10.5 using SFOTT and my MacBook (MB061) can't boot from USB-drive. I choose USB (OS X Base System) and it freezes.

Thx

I used MacPostFactor to create the install USB on a Mac with 10.9.5. I tried updating but it mess up the install. Using the 10.10.5 Yosemite.app works it may be slow until you install the drivers, then do the terminal command. You can install it on the same HDD if you partition it and make a 32gb partition to create the installer there, then install on the other partition then delete the installer partition.

Hi all,

I'm totally stuck with my current 10.10 vs MacBook2,1 experiment and need some help.

I'm running 10.6.8 on the MB2,1.

I downloaded the 10.10.5 Yosemite PKG from the official Apple page. Extracted the "Install Mac OS X Yosemite.app" on an other Catalina machine and tried to create a USB installer key with SFOTT 1.4.5.10.

I got a bootable installer stick and then I'm stuck with the grey apple screen. Interestingly, sometimes the spinner and the progress bar appear, but then a kernel panic occurs that outputs across the bootscreen and then later is shown when restarting in 10.6.8:

I even loaded a 10.10 installer from a "shady" source, but even then the SFOTT key was not working. I noted that the stated OS kernel version is 14F27 for both sources. So I thought that maybe the SFOTT kernel might be incorrect for the YOS install file version.

Any ideas how to create a bootable installer and revive my MacBook2,1? Any ideas and support is appreciated!
