iPhone 11 Pro Lens flare?

Did you noticed lens flare problems when shooting photos or videos?

After multiple people already told you, it seems that you don't understand or you can't understand.
If it's the latter part, you should do your own research. Or are you one of those people that reads something online and immediately thinks the same? It's best to form your own opinion and think with your head, not go with the trends.

Start your own research by learning photography and how optics work in photography. To sum it up quickly for you, all lenses have lens flare, even smartphone lenses. It isn't something exclusive to an iphone, or a samsung, or a whatever.

So there is no gate, there's just people that don't know photography and optics.

It's been a thing since I got my iPhone 7 and with optics these days almost all the smartphones can't run away from that without a lens hood.

Lens hoods are effective at reducing or eliminating flare as long as the offending light source is not in the image. If the said light source is not in the image, you can shade the lens with your hand, hat, etc.

Yes, And....understand what ‘Gate’ really means. How many times are members going to take that term out of context and/or misunderstand what it really means. It’s comical how overly used Gate is misconstrued on here.

Please. Please stop with the “gate” nonsense. I’ve yet to have a problem and your the first I’ve see mention it.

Serious question, you do realize why you got flamed here right? The term "gate" refers to a cover-up or a scandal. It wouldn't be used to refer to a bug or an potential issue. Too many people are quick to proclaim a "gate" which in this case would mean Apple was fully aware of something wrong and they tried to cover it up, hoping nobody notices. Therefore, if in fact there is something to this flair, I doubt it would be correct in calling it a gate.

Too many people are quick to proclaim a "gate" which in this case would mean Apple was fully aware of something wrong and they tried to cover it up, hoping nobody notices. Yes, but it seems it's not a general issue. However, I was giving the example in which the subject had flare problems not shooting at the sun/light. It had them with the light from the back also. Just some very small amount of lenses have issues. It happens. Imagine those lenses are made by a mold, which in time it cannot have same consistency. Until the mold is replaced. Maybe the first are affected, maybe the last ones. Thread closed from what I can see...

I took some pics at a concert a few nights ago and noticed some flare but I figured it was due to the lighting so idk

I don’t know but the flare i’m getting is not ‘natural’ and kind of irritating. I just recently purchased an iPhone 11 and based on the flare, yea, I actually own the green one. I don’t know if there is a fix with this.

I’m used to lens flare both on phones and also DSLRs I have, it just seems this is quite bad relative on iPhone 11 Pro. See example I was trying to take some floodlit pitch sports photography. Some is to be expected but the worst bits are from lights out of shot.

For all you saying the flare is a non-issue, here are some of my lens flare photos ... this is on my replacement 11pro Max. I’ve already replaced the phone once bc it’s so bad.

Any time you have light hitting across the lens or shooting directly into a relatively strong light source (like your photos above) you’re going to have to deal with flare.
ALL lenses will do that, even a $10,000.00 Leica FF Notilux lens. That’s why lenses for most real camera either come with a lens hood or have provisions to attach a hood, to help prevent light from entering the side of the lens.
I see nothing out of the ordinary with those photos. Lens flare, yup, but perfectly normal when dealing with a substandard (relatively speaking) unshielded lens with light hitting it from the side and directly on.

Maybe so. But not this extreme. I know a certain amount of lens flare is to be expected ... duh. But I never experienced THIS much lens flare on my previous iPhones. The iPhone 11 Pro Max was touted specifically for its camera. And for it to experience MORE lens flare than previous versions of the iPhone is unacceptable. The camera is supposed to be better than before. Not worse. But thank you for the lesson on lens flare. ?

My iPhones are certainly similar (6S, 7+ and X). A couple of friends have various 11’s and there is really not hugely noticeable difference between them. I don’t see “worse”.


You want “bad” try the led (aka “flash” haha) on the X. The placement of the led makes it very prone to “red eye” and other retina reflections when used.

I’ve definitely noticed some lens flare in the sun with my 11PM; also, as this photo shows, a little blue dot of lens flare shows up in my various moon shots--unless it was a UFO. ? lol
