I can use HiDPI UI but it causes lags in scrolling through web pages and performance issues even in audio production softwares because CPU has to process more pixels
I don't know the exact reason but I think my GPU doesn't work well because it is not recognized well by the OS
[doublepost=1562830362][/doublepost]
also I have to mention that I use 3 monitors simultaneously one is 4k retina and 2 others are none retina 1080p
maybe this kind of problem is not so obvious in single monitor usage
That GPU ident is irrelevant, you can hex edit the kext to make it shows whatever you want.

For UI, may be Sierra still use CPU to process some UI animation / effect.

I never use RX580 in Sierra, and no plan to try that as well. So, don't know the difference.

But for Mojave, RX580 drive the UI really very well. Extremely smooth even it's rendering my Ui at 2x 4k HiDPI @144Hz.

Thanks again you're very helpful, I will update to 10.14.6 immediately after final release, as you said may be Sierra still use CPU to process some UI animation

I am running Digital Performer 9.52 with two displays, one of which is a 4k TV. My GPU is an RX460 4gig by Gigabyte. Other hardware includes a MOTU AVB interface (USB-connected) and UAD-2 PCIe card.

Under Sierra 12.6, I had to use a Display Port to HDMI active adaptor and SwitchResX software to get 60Hz from the 4k display (running in Gaming Mode to minimize latency). Although all other apps' UIs responded without perceivable lag, DP's UI was quite laggy, response to zoom commands was slow and irregular, and the display lagged real time by a fraction of a beat. Not unworkable, but less than pleasant and occasionally frustrating to use.

I just migrated to Mojave (14.5) and am now able to run the 4k TV directly from the GPU's HDMI port. No more laggy UI in DP, and audio and video are now time-aligned. The update from Sierra took a little doing, but with the help of Alex's guide (a Wiki at the top of the Mac Pro forum), I got the firmware updated and Mojave installed. I had to start with a clean Sierra install, migrated thru High Sierra and to Mojave, then used Migration Assistant from a clone of my old Sierra boot drive to get my apps and data installed. So far, everything is working really well. The only software I had to re-install was the UAD-2 driver (for which UA has detailed instructions on their website) and uBlock Origin for Safari.

Since getting everything set in Mojave, my Mac Pro has not crashed despite mixing several heavy-duty productions. Although I will save my Sierra boot drive clone for the foreseeable future, I plan on cloning the current Mojave boot drive immediately as a backup. Life is good!

Installed 10.14.6. Despite claiming x.x.6 improved SMB3 reliability, SMB3 seems to be WORSE (didn't think that was possible as it was already occasionally freezing with KODI 18.3 Leia as it was). This time, when it froze (playing back an episode of Two and a Half Men), it knocked sharing out completely (share timed out on KODI). I had to start/restart the sharing mode twice (not even sure that fixed it, but eventually it started detecting the drives again in KODI).

I'm thinking about going back to El Capitan. I didn't have anywhere near this level instability with KODI back then. I suppose it's possible it's 18.3 Leia's fault (hard to tell when you upgrade both within a similar time frame), but it hasn't acted up this bad in years.

finally I installed macOS 10.14.6 .my impression is rather good so far but there are some minor problems that I think they are solvable so I'm tying to address some , I would be appreciated if you could help

Screen Shot 2019-08-08 at 1.45.16 PM.png

1 : spinning color wheel on verifying apps (I think it take too long to verify them) and on some other stuff like opening Installer on some occasions , ....
(I have Disabled Gatekeeper and SIP)
Screen Shot 2019-08-08 at 6.00.29 AM.png

2 : TRIM is not enabled even on internal SSD drives (I have PCIe SSD that show as external device) I don't know if there is a way to make it show as internal drive
Screen Shot 2019-08-08 at 1.44.20 PM.png

3: link Speed on my PCIe Slot-3 is 2.5 GT/s (I suppose it should be 5 GT/s after BootRom 144)

While Slots 1 , 2 and 4 are 5 GT/s

Screen Shot 2019-08-08 at 1.43.29 PM.png

4 : Hardware acceleration is not activated, I know it is normal as I didn't apply kext method
my question is if it has positive impact on general use or using Final Cut Pro and is it safe to do in macOS 10.14.6?

Screen Shot 2019-08-08 at 1.55.08 PM.png

4 : Boot speed is good but not compared to Sierra which was way way faster

5 : some apps that were working in 10.14.4 they doesn't work anymore in 10.14.6 ( like my Audio Interface Control Panel)

that's it for now

I wonder if it's possible to swap out the SMBD app for an older one that actually works (even say 10.14.4). Or would it have some kind of internal version check or even have more files than just the main application that would need changed to make it work? I just tested Windows 10 with KODI on my FireTV 4K and the same files freezing under 10.14.6 work 100% fine (from the same HFS+ external drives using MacDrive in Windows 10) that freeze now under macOS.

I figure I have to do something as it just doesn't work in macOS anymore. I can either swap to my alternate NFS database (that would work under macOS, but I don't have NFS for Windows 10) or I can go back to using El Capitan or stay in Windows 10 most of the time until (or should I say IF) Apple ever fixes it. I'm starting to think they won't fix it since 10.15 is just around the corner. I'm not planning on giving up 32-bit app support for otherwise crappy/minor OS changes so if that's the case, I'll go back to El Capitan until browsers, etc. don't work with it at which point I'd probably have to switch this Mac to Windows 10 full time. I simply cannot/will not replace Photoshop CFS3 with some cloud/rent by the month garbage when I only use it for minor things these days. I have an even older Photoshop for Windows 98/XP that works fine in Windows 10 still so it's less bother to go back to Windows than to have to buy high priced solutions to make the Mac operating system work with certain programs again after Apple needlessly kills 32-bit apps for no good reason.

EDIT: I changed it back to the version from El Capitan (huge file size difference; 802kB for El Capitan and 5.9MB for Mojave 10.14.6) and so far so good (didn't freeze on the first TV Show) and showed no signs of not working, although I can't be totally sure it didn't notice the change of file name of the Mojave version like it does with iTunes directory changes, but I doubt it). Trying more videos....

Two more with no freeze. If this works this well, I wonder if there's an even better version (from Mavericks or whatever when Apple had SMB3 licensed from Microsoft...at least I think they did for one version).

Edit2: Spoke too soon. Froze again. I don't know if that means it's something ancillary or it wasn't actually running the older version despite the file rename and copy.

Mojave 10.14.6 is really slow on loading login items, I've already minimized them but there are necessary ones
like iSat Menu, ...
login to OS itself is so fast but loading third party programs at startup sometimes take about 5min!!
I haver a really fast processor, good SSD and enough ram
Apple is getting worse, Sierra was better than High Sierra and High Sierra was better than Mojave
if they continue this way Catalina would be a disaster

I don't have any such issues here, but then I may not be running any of your problem programs. It takes about 27-32 seconds here for a full boot and that includes a 5-8 second delay for my external 4TB media drives (spinners) to spin up. Otherwise, I think it'd be around 20 seconds like my Macbook Pro (2008 no less) does with El Capitan with an SSD (and it's only SATA I).

It looks like you don't have TRIM support turned on. That changed my hard drive write times from 125Mb/sec to almost 500MB/sec here on my Mac Mini with SATA III. (sudo trimforce enable <- turns it on, although there's a small chance it might not work with certain SSDs).

My ONLY real problem is SMB was unreliable in 10.14.5 and is darn new worthless (videos freeze after 10-25 minutes on average) in 10.14.6. If I use NFS (which Apple deleted the configs for when I upgraded to Mojave and I had to copy from a backup, but the binaries are still there), it works perfect, but Apple has no sleep tokens for NFS (so you have to use a program like amphetamine to keep it from going to sleep) and short of locating and/or buying an NFS install for Windows 10, I can't just boot into Windows or macOS and KODI on devices around the house didn't know/care which OS the server was in as it could read the same drives with the same addresses either way. SMB3 works perfect in Windows 10, but since apple botched it up in Mojave thus far, I had to switch to NFS and so now I have to find NFS for Windows 10 to retain the same "doesn't matter which OS I'm in" functionality.

It works here, but it seems to be much slower than before (as in I can no longer reliably drag the position indicator to fast forward and rewind to a specific point as it lags so badly compared to say Apple's own spacebar preview.

Oddly, SMB sharing to KODI on a FireTV 4K and an NVidia Shield seems to be working fine lately here from Mojave and NFS had just froze a few days ago, which implies whatever the freeze is it's in common with both networking protocols. The ONLY thing I can think of that has changed here is I've left iTunes OFF while using it. Is it possible having iTunes running could somehow interfere with networking in general, somehow?

2012 MacBook Pro Bluetooth issues Mojave 10.14.5 broke my Bluetooth in clamshell mode when computer hibernates. Used to be able to wake computer with magic keyboard or trackpad. For some reason now the Bluetooth is disabled in hibernate now I have to wake computer by opening lid. It works fine when in sleep just not hibernate. I think it has something to do with the EFI update.

Anyone else notice this issue?

So far looks like the supplemental update fixed my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard issues for waking computer. Will give it a few more days and see how it goes.

It wasn't iTunes either still working with it running). I did tell SMBup to uninstall itself, but it never interfered before and I don't know how that could affect NFS. It seem OK at the moment, though.

Is there some reason Software Update doesn't work at all since I updated to Mojave? Anyone else having this issue? If I try to update something with it (e.g. New version of Safari just now), it just gets an error of timing out. It couldn't manage the last two OS updates either. Every single time it times out. I don't get it. How is it checking for updates if it cannot connect to Apple's servers? WHY can't it connect to the actual updates? It gives no reason; it just times out. I had to do the full manual download for the past two updates. But it cannot even update Safari??? WTF!?! The updates for Apps through the Mac store update just fine. It's just updates through the preference software updates that times out.

I looked up the bit in RED above and found a number of hits about iOS simulators, banned domains by ISPs and a lot of coding stuff I have no idea about. The bottom line seems to be it cannot find the file to download.

I've looked and looked and looked but CANNOT find a combo type update for Safari 13 that it wants to update but cannot due to the errors mentioned in the post above. I guess the Mac will now hassle me to the end of time about it something it cannot download.

Worse yet, when I rebooted, I got the dreaded STUCK Apple Logo boot issue (mentioned somewhere on here before). I had to boot into Recovery and type the following into a shell to get it to load again:

diskutil apfs updatePreboot /Volumes/DriveName/ (where DriveName is the name of my OS volume)

That gets it to work for an unknown period of time (could be once, could be a dozen times) and then it eventually hangs again. This all since upgrading to a solid state drive from a RAID0 dual drive setup and installing Windows 10 Professional and then the Mojave update (from El Capitain). It seems to get confused often. I can only guess it has something to do with Apple not updating Boot Camp for YEARS now (not even to fix the "Boot into Mac" option. It just feels like Apple doesn't give a crap about the Mac anymore....

So I finally got back into macOS again and tried the Safari download again (in case something needed reset) and the same thing. It timed out (sigh).

Confirmed bug with Apple.

WindowServer Process will go high CPU (>35%) when external DisplayLink or Thunderbolt Monitors are connected and NightShift is enabled. Disabling NightShift is the only work around until Catalina. Problem occurs when NightShift attempts to change the screen at sundown. Rebootdoes not stop the process. After 30minutes the issue stops. Kernel provides syslog messages about changing resolution every 1-10ms during this time.

I've found at least one screensaver that uses enough CPU time in Mojave to make the fans kick in here (Macs Fan Control setting the same since El Capitan) that didn't use that much CPU time in El Capitan. I changed screensavers.

SMB behavior is still odd. Something happens during boot. Sometimes (meaning some boots) it plays media to KODI just fine. Other times (boots) it freezes every so often. I've not been able to get Windows 10 to freeze in the same manner so I think it's Mojave. It's not likely to get fixed before Catalina (or necessarily then either). I'm still thinking about going back to El Capitan. It's just more reliable as a movie server. I've also thought about buying a cheap Windows 10 (like a Raspberry Pi) to serve movies and nothing else.

It's almost unbelievable, but someone on the Apple forums found the FIX for Mojave not updating correctly. It seems regardless of what point you updated to Mojave (i.e. say to a version that should already include the update), you need to install the Security update 2019-001 from Apple (https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2024?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US). I did that and it fixed the problem. Updates work normally again here (it didn't even have to do a full reboot for that one). Apple was no help at all. They don't seem to know their own operating system. Of course, now it's bugging me about updating to Catalina, but I have no desire to ((at least not on this machine) since they dropped 32-bit app support.

finally I installed macOS 10.14.6 .my impression is rather good so far but there are some minor problems that I think they are solvable so I'm tying to address some , I would be appreciated if you could help

1 : spinning color wheel on verifying apps (I think it take too long to verify them) and on some other stuff like opening Installer on some occasions , ....
(I have Disabled Gatekeeper and SIP)

2 : TRIM is not enabled even on internal SSD drives (I have PCIe SSD that show as external device) I don't know if there is a way to make it show as internal drive

3: link Speed on my PCIe Slot-3 is 2.5 GT/s (I suppose it should be 5 GT/s after BootRom 144)

While Slots 1 , 2 and 4 are 5 GT/s

4 : Hardware acceleration is not activated, I know it is normal as I didn't apply kext method
my question is if it has positive impact on general use or using Final Cut Pro and is it safe to do in macOS 10.14.6?

4 : Boot speed is good but not compared to Sierra which was way way faster

5 : some apps that were working in 10.14.4 they doesn't work anymore in 10.14.6 ( like my Audio Interface Control Panel)

that's it for now

Oh, I missed this post. Sorry for the very late reply, hopefully you already sorted out the problems.

1) This is the command to avoid those annoying verification.
Code:
defaults write com.apple.LaunchServices LSQuarantine -bool NO

2) You need to enable TRIM manually by yourself
Code:
sudo trimforce enable

And innie can make them ident as internal drive (so that SWAP can work again)

3) Slot 3 can always negotiate at 5GT/s correctly regardless firmware version, however, that only happen if the PCIe card itself can support 5GT/s.

4) HWAccel is not activated by default for Mac Pro 5,1. You may follow my guide to apply Board-ID injection. Or patch the AppleGVA.framwork to achieve H264 HWAccel, and HEVC hardware decode. But for full HWAccel, so far, I can only achieve that via OpenCore. If you make the system ident it as iMac Pro, pretty much all new functions can work on the Mac Pro 5,1.

Boot time is OK for me, just few seconds difference anyway.

5) No idea for this one. Anyway, this is the reason why I don't want to go Catalina yet. There are still few 32bit apps very useful for me.
