Recently my 2011 EMC 2429 Intel i7 27” iMac was showing the flashing ‘?’ when attempting to boot. When trying to reinstall MacOS, disk utility was not showing my internal HDD.

Upon further investigation I found out the iMac is not supplying the internal HDD with power thus the drive never spins up and hence doesn't work.

Powering the internal HDD with an external SATA power supply allows the iMac to boot and run successfully with no issue.

What do I need to replace to get power to the internal SATA harddrive again?

Thanks!

New power supply? ;)

I was thinking that - that’s better than the logic board!

It looks like the SATA power cable connects to the logic board but it must be powered via the PSU? I am yet to follow where the SATA power cable actually goes. Some research shows it looks like it does connect to the logic board but I am not sure.

Is it more likely to be the PSU over the logic board when this happens?
