For me, is the order of operation and hdmi actually connected when you external monitor using usb_c hub dongle ( insignia 3 port pass thru, hdmi, usb ) ??? Standard hdmi asus monitors, macbook pro MacBookPro14,1

Keep the dongle unplugged until you are signed/logged in to Mojave. Make sure the HDMI is already connected to the dongle and the monitor is on. Plug the usb_c hub into your computer.

If you plug the usb_c hub into the computer first and then connect the hdmi to the usb_c hub, it doesn't always work.

Also, make sure the hdmi is properly connected on both sides, especially usb_c hub. I found half the time I thought it was connected and it needed an extra push ( click ).

It looks like the 10.14.2 beta 1 is promising for the folks using a dock/DisplayPort (at least on 2018 MacBooks). I can’t confirm it myself yet but can’t wait to try when I get home.

Hmm.. maybe double check that the extension is enabled in Security Settings, I had to manually allow it.

It is working for me in general but some apps like Photos will not start for some reason.

So finally...got mojave installed on my 2018 MBP and now external displays do not work. These cables and dock were working perfectly fine before. Tested on another mbp as well and they work fine.

I tried nvram reset and smc reset...no beans. Also installed the latest displaylink drivers...no beans.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Exactly the same problem. Out of all displays only Samsung made displays are working. Other ones (HP/DELL) do get detected by mac as they are being displayed under System Information -> Graphics/Displays and appear when I 'Gather Windows' in Display Preferences but nothing appears on screens; they remain black!

My machine is MBP 15" late 16.

I have done all and every kind of troubleshooting step(s) mentioned on online forums including NVRAM and SCM resets. Used dongles to convert signal from HDMI to VGA/DVI/DisplayPort. My standard cable is HDMI to HDMI and the dock is Baseus GN30E Type-C Multiport Adaptor.

Also, I've tried DisplayLink driver update/reinstall and currently using 5.0.1. I have enabled DisplayLiknkUserAgent.app in Accessibility Preferences in Security & Privacy Preferences, too. But the problem is still there.

[I'm getting fed up of Apple. I still have that goddamn keypad wherein multiple keys get pressed multiple times on single press, no support for engineering softwares, no native support for windows formats in external storages, SMB protocol to connect with servers is way behind Windows...I've to connect to SMB server every time I switch network!!! And thousand more problems emerging everyday!!!]

For me, I don't see DisplayLinkUserAgent.app after installing 5.0.1, but I do see it under Activity Monitor running as a process (parent process launchd(1)).

Check in Security & Privacy > General > Allow apps downloaded from:
and 'Anywhere' is chosen!

You may have Display Link Inc. to enable here if your setting different for App allow!

It would actually be under System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility (on the left)

You should see DisplayLinkUserAgent in the list of apps that are allowed to control your computer. If not, here's how to add it:
https://support.displaylink.com/kno...o-manually-add-displaylinkuseragent-app-to-th

Thank you - this helped, the good news is that I added the DisplayLinkUserAgent to Accessibility. The bad news is same result - no display to external monitor (tried Detect Monitor, sleep/wake, resets, etc).

Pretty interesting thread.
I own an Mbpro 15 mid-2015 that I use almost 100% of the time on an external Eizo screen (connected through the external display port), with closed lid.

In my case the external monitor works, but:
a) if I put the laptop in Stop manually, I am able to wake up the computer (and montior) using the external keyboard.
b) if the laptop goes into Stop automatically, the external keyboard is not able to wake up the computer, and the screen stays black (until I open the lid).

I have mojave installed 10.14.1.
Don't know if the problem was there with High Sierra, just bought the laptop and it already had Mojave installed.
Never had such an issue with my previous macbook pro early 2011.

[doublepost=1543807506][/doublepost]It appears that the only cable that will work after installing Mojave is Apple's own 0.8m Thunderbolt USB-C*. It's all to do with signals over a resistance. I had thought it was a case of Apple not getting on the same page with External display manufacturers - ie LG, with their EDID codes (External Display Identification). However even the Apple geniuses could not work out the problem (I ended up getting a new motherboard from them) - I suggested that they try the short specialist cable - and it worked. It it's a total bummer because I have had to rearrange all my working space to accommodate the cable.
The Apple mystique diminishes day by day.
Try the short 0.8 m cable. You can always take it back if it won't function for you.
*This 0.8-metre cable supports Thunderbolt 3 data transfer at up to 40 Gbps, USB 3.1 Gen 2 data transfer at up to 10 Gbps, DisplayPort video output (HBR3) and charging at up to 100 watts. Use this cable to connect any Mac with a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port to Thunderbolt 3 devices such as docks, hard drives and displays. You can daisy-chain up to six Thunderbolt 3 devices.

[doublepost=1540018169][/doublepost]Yes, EXACTLY the same problem and have tried everything I can find to solve it - but I can't crack it. I do mean everything! I have an external LG 27UK850 4k monitor that worked perfectly before and now it will not connect to my Mojave iMac. It will connect to a TV tuner or DVD player and function perfecty in HDMI. But Display port and the USBC (the reason I dropped $900Aus on the monitor) has rendered my inverstment a total turkey. V5 of the DisplayLink software won't even load - no matter how many privileges I give it. It shows a proper Certificate from Apple but the splash sceen shows: "DisplayLinkDriver can't be installed on this disk. is Downgrade"

Come on Apple - what the hell is happenning to you. While your stuff is getting prettier it is getting more and more useless and troublesome with every release.

I NEED functionality, not a dead moniotor because I trusted you. No matter how pretty Mojave is - it doesn't work properly.

I NEED this monotor to work damn it! Digitus Extracus Apple.
[doublepost=1545498465][/doublepost]Solution: I guess this only a turnaround but it works for me.

I have an iMac late 2013, i7 3,5 GHz, 32 Ram that still have lots of muscles for a 5 years old machine and an extra ACER monitor that sometimes doesn't wake up after the computer went to sleep mode.

Simply disconnect all cables on the monitor and wait for 10 seconds and then plug everything back. It should do the trick.

Very similar experience here... all worked until I installed mojave. I only used to connect to a overhead projector and suddenly I'm unable to present in a meeting.

I've tried and the same port works when connected (via the same adapter) to a modern monitor...

From the console log - displaypolicyd.POP2.log
u>148901644710 LinkUpdate: 20.0 event: Insert [0]
u>148901644791 LinkUpdate: 16.0 event: Remove [1]
u>148901644860 WARNING: Poll on/offline timeout fb mask 1:e fb polling 2:0 at 3496

u>148901645539 NOTICE: inject FB[1] change

u>148902043659 NOTICE: Async LinkTrain Port: 20: SST, 2 lanes @ HBR
u>148902079163 NOTICE: inject FB[2] change

So it looks like the EDID code from the overhead projector is no longer understood in Mojave and I'm guessing that there is no default resolution setup to use on the device.

This tip give me hope, the plugging the power cable in and out makes me crazy! What interface do I need to have in the monotir end of the cable, my monitor (Acer 4K) does not have a usb-c interface. For now I have been using HDMI to connect the monitor to USB-C my 2018 iMac 27". The monitor has DVI, HDMI, VGA etc.

Hi, first post here!

I've tried this (and all the other hints/tips) and unfortunately it's still not working for me.

I have just purchased an LG27UK850 monitor and MacBook Pro (2018) and can only get power/charge from the monitor to MacBook, no video signal whatsoever.

I'm using the USB-C cable supplied with the MacBook and when connected to the monitor it simply shows "No Signal. Please check your connection" on the screen.

I know it should work as I've seen reviews/videos about it prior to purchasing (here for example), so I'm a little frustrated having spent over £3k! The whole point was so I could have two screens with just a single cable between the MacBook and monitor.

Any other ideas? :)

I've encountered an issue with my external displays not working on my 2016 MacBook Pro. I finally got them to work after I enabled the DisplayLink kext (kernel extension). Apparently ever since 10.13, Apple has required users to explicitly enable system extensions.

This solution was on the DisplayLink website, but the steps were in the images that didn't load on their site. Here's a PDF version of their page:

http://www.vantecusa.com/CKEdit/files/MacOSX_10dot13or10dot14_ Video_function_not_enabled_DisplayLink.pdf

If that doesn't work, I've archived it in my Google Drive:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Zr_JzT8FhI4tG9m6Wq5QvlYdquds0Vb_/view?usp=sharing

Here's some information about my stuff:

OS: macOS Mojave 10.14.3
Dock: Targus USB3 DV4K Dock (Product ID: 0x6001)
Displays: 2x Fujitsu DY24W-7
Display connections: DVI
Dock connections: DisplayPort using DVI-to-DisplayPort adapter

my LG 4k monitor only works when I connect over HDMI (via a USB-C adapter) to my brand new 13" MBP. Mac receives power from the monitor but the Mac doesn't recognise it. I've done all the suggestions, including the DisplayLink security changes.

Any other ideas?

Had similar issue after upgrading Mojave. Power cycle of monitor resolved this issue.
Try to unplug monitor and plug back in.

Ok... done a couple of apple updates but still cannot use my laptop on the projector.

Looks like my only recourse is to downgrade. Time to google how to do this!

I'm facing this issue on a brand new 2019 13" Macbook Pro

I use an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter to connect my LG Ultrawide and power. I noticed this time that when I plugged it in after returning from a meeting that the laptop wasn't even charging. tried 3x before it started working
Once it worked, the external monitor was fine.

I've been having similar issues to some of you with my new 16" MBP and the LG 5K having never had an issue with my 15" MBP. Turns out for me it was having Mail in full screen view. If Mail is running windowed all is good, if it's in full screen then once the Mac goes to sleep the external screen won't kick in again until I unplug and plug it back in to the Mac. This issue has been driving me nuts for the past week, but all has been fine today since leaving Mail windowed.
