Screen brightness broken (Sierra 10.12.4 beta 3)

Thanks to @MisutaaUrufu there is a solution! Replace AppleBacklight.kext and AppleBacklightExpert.kext in /System/Library/Extensions, and DisplayServices.framework in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks with ones from 10.12.3 and we're good!

Step 2.
Download Pacifist: https://www.charlessoft.com/

Step 3.
Use pacifist to open the combo go to the folder /System/Library/Extensions right click on it and install AppleBacklight.kext and AppleBacklightExpert.kext to their default location.

Also go to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks and install to the default location DisplayServices.framework

Step 4.
Restart and voila!

I`ve found this thread after encountering the brightness issue myself. So this method seems to be working but i can`t try it out that easily because of my bad internet connection (DSL2000... What year is it?).
Because of that I wanted to ask if somebody could provide me the needed kext files. This would help me out so much!

Also, now every time I close my MacBook and open it again, the screen is pitch black and I can't turn the brightness on, so I have to manually shut down and restart the laptop. Does anyone else have this problem?

I have zipped the relevant files here. Just drop them in their respective paths:

/System/Library/Extensions for AppleBacklight.kext and AppleBacklightExpert.kext
and
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks for DisplayServices.framework

You may not have access to replace them, so you may have to restart, and while rebooting, press the command button and R. Then from the utilities menu, choose terminal. then type
csrutil disable

restart and install these files in their location, restart again, while pressing command R, open terminal again and type in

csrutil enable

then restart into regular mode and hopefully you should be fine.

Same problem after updating to 10.13.1. God ****ing damit.

EDIT: Installing the 10.13.1 combo Update and applying the patch again worked.

I have a similar issue on 10.13.4 with an old Apple Cinema HD Display and an early 2013 rMBP in clamshell mode via an external keyboard. Sometimes when I wake the Mac the brightness keys have no effect. Brightness buttons on monitor work but on screen feedback always shows 50% brightness.

My workaround is to go into activity monitor and force quit corebrightnessd a few seconds later the system will relaunch it automatically and brightness keys work once again.

after i updated to High Sierra, my iMac display stopped working, only black screen. i did all kinds of reset, then i had to replace my display hardware i thought it it blew up, or maybe did. after that when i fixed it the brightness adjustment doesnt function. the monitor has the same brightness even when the slider/dots go up and down. it happened the after few hours from using the new software.

i dont know what to do, i jsut hopw my iMac doest break down, yestersay i saw a blue line in my screen and only went away after another rest

looking for an answer to fix the issue, i cant work on a dark screen like this!

@idoo if you click on the link and read what it is referencing it will become clear. Hint: the bug seems to center around the Ambient Light Sensor and its settings.

It seems that this new update was to force Old Computer Users into updating their old models. Apple knows exactly what they are doing, these are no longer glitches. It's 2018, time to wake up, look up and verify.

The patch of @dosdude1 for the screen brightness worked perfectly until "High Sierra 10.13.6" but in "Mojave 10.14" Kernel error .

Does anyone have any solution for Mojave?

Thanks for this workaround - it solved a similar problem I was having on a 2012 Mac Mini with Apple TB Display in High Sierra 10.13.6.
