Air model is A1466 (EMC 2925), Core i7 2.2GHz

Upgrading to a SSD to 1) Crucial SSD P1 500GB 500G NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 PCI-Express 3D NAND CT500P1SSD8 and 2) Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME SSD Adapter Card

Booting from USB (High Sierra 10.13.6), the system does not recognize the new SSD, nor does it recognize the old/original SSD, hence the SSD upgrade attempt. I figured the original was dead.

Photos attached for backup.

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated by my daughter. Thx in advance... Brett

I'll create a Sierra boot image disk and try that. Linux guy- didn't realize there was a Sierra AND High Sierra OS. Confusion generates cash tho in various forms... Thx.

So- I need an SSD pre-loaded with High Sierra? I did confirm it was Sierra running prior.

You need to install High Sierra to the MacBook when it's running with an internal, original Apple SSD. The High Sierra bootrom is updated during the High Sierra installation process.

I recommend installing the latest release of Mojave or Catalina to ensure the MacBook is running the latest bootrom. After confirming that the MacBook has an updated bootrom, you can install High Sierra with the nvme drive.

Hello, I have a Mid-2014 Macbook Pro (A1502).
I am in the process of upgrading the SSD with a Sintech NGFF M.2 PCIe SSD Card.
I plan to install a CRUCIAL P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (CT1000P1SSD8) with this Sintech card.

Where can I find an easy step-by-step guide on how to install this combination.
Also, for anyone who has done this before - what precautions do I need to take before I start the upgradation ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I had the same problem, MacBook Pro 2015 with snitch adapter m.2 I upgraded to Samsung 1tb pro970.
you just have to play and maybe take a little bit out the ssd or the adapter from the connector.

Hello. I am planning on performing this same upgrade to my MacBook Air Early 2014 model A1466 as well. I currently have Catalina installed and wondered if there would be any problems like the issue that was resolved in this thread or can I simply make a boot drive with Catalina on it and have it run fine. I am just confused about the problem that was solved being do I have to be in High Sierra or just any OS beyond High Sierra works. Thanks

As long as you have firmware from MacOS High Sierra or beyond you will have no issues. Being on Catalina already, your firmware will have been updated to the latest version, so you will have no issues there. Simply install the adapter and new SSD, then install Catalina onto the new drive and you will be good to go from there.

You may need to change the sleep settings as well to prevent kernel panics when waking the MacBook.
