Just ordered through my school, 8% below Edu discount. Base 16" upgraded to 1Tb SSD. I'm an academic, tons of reading and writing, a tiny bit of video/audio editing, and I travel 4-months a year. At home, will be hooked up to 2x32" 4k monitors, some Bose Companion 5s, and 5 external drives.

Upgrading from a 2013 13" MBP.

I just re-ordered a more optimized model:

Silver, i9 2.3, 32 GB RAM, 5500M 8GB, 1TB

The in-store BTO in Space Grey with the 2.4 and 2 TB is overkill and too expensive.

Ordered a baseline 16” MBP with the 4GB 5500m GPU from Apple. Expected delivery is 10-12th of December. My first new Mac since 2011, can’t wait to get it!

Mine just arrived. It's the i9 base model in silver.
First impressions:
- that thing is huge when coming from a 13" MBP - will see how quickly I will adapt.
- screen is brighter than my 2016 13" and looks fantastic - no tint, dead pixels or clouding
- trackpad is level
- not sure if prefer the new keyboard - the butterfly on my old one worked perfectly and I like the low travel
- the speakers are amazing (for laptop speakers) - I had the 2019 13" for a week and everybody was raving about the speaker quality on those but I really disliked them compared to the 2016 model, so I was a bit afraid that the 16" speakers are also just upping bass frequencies while cutting out highs and high mids but they sound really really good and even.
- migration from the old MBP was easy and fast
- silver is a good color and a welcomed change from space grey

Cannot say much about the performance yet as Spotlight indexing is still going on as well as Photos downloading stuff.

Quite happy so far.

welp 2 hours past the 10:30 deadline, prkbably due to the snow but the roads are clear/wet/warm and even the mailman showed up three hours earlier than usual

ive been wanting to go get lunch for 1.5 hours...

id like to think im still a top priority delivery and should be getting it any minute and not 5-6 hours from now

Just ordered one with everything except the 8TB drive (it's got 4 TB)
Screen Shot 2019-11-27 at 2.52.56 PM.png

Should be a nice, fast photo workstation for a number of years. Hoping for about twice as fast as my 2017 (plus all that storage!). I work with 50 MP image files all the time, so the RAM seemed worth it - I knew the choice was between 32 and 64, because I have RAM problems with 16 frequently on the current machine.

I picked up the base 16-inch today. It sort of does what I need it to do, so the in-store BTO is going back.

I’m still torn about i7 vs i9, 16 vs 32 GB RAM, and 5300M vs 5500M though.

After feedback from most of my friends, I have ordered the Macbook Pro 16" Inch base model from Amazon.uk (I use UK keyboards despite living in Portugal)

- i7
- 5300M
- 16GB
- 512GB

I do mainly virtualisation and play World of Warcraft.. For me base model is more than enough. Regarding my SSD space I use double Samsung T5 each 1TB.

I picked up the base 16-inch today. It sort of does what I need it to do, so the in-store BTO is going back.

You should be more than fine with the 5300M.

Got a friend who does 4K and 5K editing and she's been using it and has had no issue what so ever with the base model.

Finally just pressed the order button through Amazon for the base 16” MBP. Was going to go through Apple with the educational discount, but it was the same price on Amazon with a faster delivery. I also was maybe going to go for the 1tb, but I’ll just get an external later on. It would be nice to have the 1tb internally, but I’ll suffice. Everything I do is hobby. I’ll manage. I’m super excited. Now just waiting to see about any good Black Friday deals for accessories. Have my eye on a specific bag and hub and possibly an ssd (might wait for ssd.) I’ll hold off a few more hours I suppose. Those items would likely arrive earlier than the MBP anyhow.

Great price from EDUstore isn't it - I've ordered the same. Over £600 cheaper than Apple!

Yes it is. I did have the maxed out one in the basket but it only gave around 11% discount. After much deliberation this one was a better deal with around 22% off (over £650) with MBPRO16 voucher.

2.3 8 core i9

5500 M 8gb vram
1tb SSD
AppleCare

You’ll likely get it sooner. Mine shipped within 48 hours of ordering and the delivery date moved up by 5-6 days: originally the 11th and now the 6th.

What did you get?
Edit: I see your post just above my initial one. Looks like you got the same Mac I did! Congrats ?

Picked up my CTO 16" on black friday from the Apple Store. Ordered from the EDU store on 11/18, originally scheduled for pickup 12/5, then moved to 11/29, actually arrived 11/27. Trading in my 2015 for credit toward it (maybe... I love that thing to death).

I ordered on 11/30 (16" 2.3 8 core, 32GB, 8gb VRAM, 1TB). My card was charged this morning. Does that mean that shipment to the store is imminent?
