I recently received a gift of a CD set

I plugged in Apple CD drive, inserted the disc and the CDs ejected immediately. I had my sister use an old macbook with a built in CD drive. Same thing. I tried bootcamp-- same result)
The only things it will play on are my bluray player (as an SACD) and my CD changer, which reads it as a redbook CD.
I don't think my drive is failing-- I have ripped several hybrid SACDs within the past month-- though none were published as recently as 2012. This was.
Any ideas as to what's going on?
