What is Container disk2? I've never noticed it before...

I think that is normal to see that for a Fusion drive under APFS.
Run each of these two commands in Terminal and tell us the output.

1) Why wouldn't it show Container disk1 (instead of Container disk2)/>
2) I mess around in this area a lot for my external hard drives and I don't remember seeing this before...ever. So I'm not sure if it's normal or if I haven't noticed it before.

Yeah... looks normal. disk0 is the hard drive, disk1 is the flash drive, and disk2 is the virtual Fusion drive. Makes sense.

How did I end up doing APFS? I'm looking here and I don't see anything being shared on different volumes.
So there's no way to make this go away? Before, I remember it just showing Fusion Drive > Macintosh HD
I never recalled seeing the Container disk2 before...

When you installed High Sierra it converted the disks to APFS.
I'm wondering if you had DU set to only show volumes before and that is why it looks different now. It appears you have it set to show all devices now.
You don't have more than one volume. You have exactly one volume titled, "Macintosh HD". It lives in a Container that sits on a fusion drive, which is a virtual merging to two physical disks.
When you upgraded to Mojave, the install process probably converted the CoreStorage Fusion drive to an APFS multiple drive container to support the Fusion drive concept.
If you look closely at the diskutil list output, you will see that disk2 has 4 APFS volumes. The disk utility app has helpfully??? hidden 3 system related volumes: Preboot, Recovery and VM.
In summary, disk0 is a 2TB spinner and disk1 is a 128GB SSD. APFS combined disk0 and disk1 as a 2.1TB container: disk2. Within the container are the Preboot, Recovery, VM and Macintosh HD volumes.

Hi i have noticed this problem as well.
I noticed something strange on my macbook. When I used the disk utility in the normal mode, under the Internal tab after I clicked open all devices, it says it contains Container disk 1. But when I used the disk utility in the recovery mode, under the Internal tab, it says it contains Container disk 2 instead. I was under the impression that the same Container disk should be shown in both the normal and recovery mode for the disk utility. Is there a reason why there are 2 different containers being shown and if having this situation a cause for concern? In addition, is there any way to fix this issue?
I have attached screenshots for reference.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
