I got a myspace profile because a guy from college persuaded me. I insisted it was all about pulling, but he assured me it wasn't. He was wrong, but I've found it quite good. Most of the people I know on it dabble in design and web design, and so most of the pages I've come across aren't too bad. I quite enjoyed trying to get round the myspace coding to not make it look hideous. (And for the grid to line up
. ) I just close the pages that are annoying straight away. The friends in my profile are either genuinely my friends or people that have messaged me or I've messaged them about design, and I've chatted to a few nice folk that way. Anyone random who just does a friend request I just delete. I'm also a bit of a convert after I had to organise a meeting at college for the next day without that many email addresses and phone numbers. Message through Myspace - had the best turnout yet.
Having said that, music and video that play without asking on web pages drives me insane, and I hate that it does that on myspace.
Actually, that's it - isn't it? It's just like the web. Some pages are crap, a few are inoffensive, a few are well designed. Most of it is people trying to cop off or sell something, but there's a few that aren't. Pages that play music, screw with your computer or don't load you just close. You find your own way through.
Having said that, if there was a more grown up and well used MySpace, particularly for design, I'd love a bit of it.
