So since iOS 12 is rumoured to be a performance update and a majority of the features originally for iOS 12 are being pushed back to next year in iOS 13, will the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus be getting iOS 13? It seems logical as the 5s is most likely getting iOS 12 and extending it's life by a year. Does this mean each phone currently on iOS 11 and the ones that will be on iOS 12 (except the 5s) getting an extra year of life/support?

Yes. Apple is regretting ever releasing ios 11. Ios 12 will be what ios 11 should have been and aa a result the 6 will get 2 more years of support.

Yeah. iOS 12 was supposed to get a redesigned home screen and lots of new features but they were pushed to iOS 13 because of the various issues which plagued iOS 11.
Yep :p. I just said that in the thread. Anywho I’m excited as I have an iPhone 6 Plus and was worried I’d be stuck on iOS 12.

I can see this happening if they follow the pattern started with the 3GS.

I'd say it's 50/50. Rumors are pointing to all devices that will run iOS 11 getting iOS 12 as well, but we won't know for sure if the 5s will be supported with iOS 12 until Monday. If the 5s does get iOS 12 then there is a decent (but certainly not guaranteed) chance that iPhone 6 & 6 Plus will get iOS 13. That said the performance difference between the 5s and 6 series is pretty small and Apple might just drop them both at the same time.

Every iPhone has always gotten 5 years of support. 2017 iOS 11 does not count as it was a horrible release overall so it's more like a pause year. If 5s support is stopped on iOS 12, 6 will be stopped on iOS 13.

I can see it happening. As iPhones have increased in performance, they should gradually get longer support.

iPhone 2G - iPhone OS 2, iPhone OS 3 (2 updates)
iPhone 3G - iPhone OS 3, iOS 4 - 4.2 (2 updates, but not the whole of the 4 cycle)
iPhone 3GS - iOS 4, iOS 5, iOS 6 (3 updates)
iPhone 4 - iOS 5, iOS 6, iOS 7 (3 Updates)
iPhone 4S - iOS 6, iOS 7, iOS 8, iOS 9 (4 Updates)
iPhone 5 - iOS 7, iOS 8, iOS 9, iOS 10 (4 Updates)

Following patterns (2 generations getting the same number of updates) plus the fact that a) the 5S is very close to 6 in terms of performance and iOS 12 being a performance boost update, then I think very likely that the 5S will get iOS 12.

iPhone 5S - iOS 8, iOS 9, iOS 10, iOS 11, iOS 12 (5 updates)
iPhone 6 - iOS 9, iOS 10, iOS 11, iOS 12, iOS 13 (5 updates)

The only thing is that the 6 not a big increase over the 5S so I have no idea how well iOS 13 would run on it, and I also think, if the 6 can run it, then the 5S should be able to as well.

So far Apple hasn't given any new iPhone generation fewer updates then the previous generation (I count the 5C as the same as the 5, as it was just a repackaging). They have however given the iPad 3 (iOS 6,7,8,9) 1 less than the iPad 2 (iOS 5,6,7,8,9).

iOS 11 already runs like a POS on i6. No matter what Apple says iOS 12 will be similar if not worse on i6, regardless of what you make of those promises. If it does get iOS 13, it will probably be as bad as iOS 9 on iPhone 4s.

You never know, iOS 10 improved performance on some devices. iOS 6 definitely improved my 3GS.

That may be a possibility for iOS 12. But certainly not for iOS 13.

Again you never know. Apple may have learnt its lesson and is spreading features out over two well put together releases. iOS 10 managed to be a good performer on old hardware and add nw features as well :)

I would not think the iPhone 6 will get iOS 13. It will be slow enough on 12

True, and i agree with you even the iPhone 5S will get iOS 13. Since compared to iPhone 4S on iOS9 the 5s on iOS 12is like 2 times faster than 4S on ioS 9 right?
Meanwhile 6/6S on iOS 12 are much faster like 4 to 6 Times faster than iOS 9 on a 4S.
Or basically like this.
iOS 13 - any iOS 12 supported device that is clocked 1.4Ghz or higher, at least 1600MaH battery capacity, NFC, Apple pay feature and etc
iOS 14- any device that has 2GB Ram for the minimum specs! iPad air 2 and mini 4 still supported!
iOS 15- iPhone 6S and up!, iPad Pro 2015 and up! Mini 4 and air 2 is dropped!
iOS 16 - iPhone 7 and Up! iPad 2017 and
higher

Doubt it. Not enough folks are buying new iPhones because their old ones are still getting iOS updates.

I wonder if we missed the part of apple saying that they ruined iOS 11... hmm

I highly doubt that iOS 15 will be on the iPhone 6s. Maybe the 7?
