I have an IMAC running Mojave and have updated from High Sierra. I have been having Kernel panics now for around 5 months and they are becoming more frequent, sometimes 2 - 3 times per day. I updated to Mojave hoping it might fix the panics. It didn't.

Today I got an error message which I had not got before. I am not very "mac savvy" and need help to decide if I need a new mac or if this can be fixed. Can anybody help to decipher this and let me know if this might be a software or hardware issue. We have run the standard Mac testing over it and found no errors.

Thank you in advance for any help available.

I see you have 12GB of RAM installed in your 2015 27" iMac. If that third party RAM installed? If it is, maybe put back in the RAM that came with the computer and see if the crashes stop. Are you mounting any devices or connecting to any servers over SMB? If so, maybe try disconnecting from SMB, restart the computer and see if that helps.

Correction: OP panic report shows 24 GB of RAM installed.
But, the point is still valid -- Have you always had that memory installed?
Try removing third-party RAM, and use it that way for a few days.

We bought the machine 2nd hand a year ago with 8mb ram as 2 x 4mb chips. We added 2 x 8mb chips to make the 24. We have removed the original 4mb chips and currently testing on the newer 16mb. Hoping that the original ram might have been faulty.
Thank you so much for your help. Much appreciated.

We are currently taking out 2 of the 4mb ram chips and trialing on the newer pair of 8mb chips. Fingers crossed.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help.

Hi Everyone. We removed the two 4mb ram chips which came originally with the mac and I have been working for the past week on 16mb. The crashes have quartered but are still there. Crashing once per day now rather than 4 - 8 times per day. This makes it very confusing as it helped the problem but didn't solve it.

This is the latest report from this morning. Oddly, I only get a report every now and then. Not very time. This is the second report I have received after 4 months of crashes. Are there any mac gurus out there that can decipher this one for me. It's driving me nuts. o_O

Thank you in advance.

The suggestion last time was to remove the third party 16GB RAM and only leave in the original 8GB RAM that came with the computer. That way you will eliminate whether the third party RAM might be causing the crashing issue.

By the way, you have GB of RAM not MB.

Of course. GB not MB. Thanks for the reply Taz. Will try that for a while and see how I go. Thank you.

On thing that I notice last time and this time is that in the crash report it shows you are connecting to a NAS or server using SMB. Is that the case?

I really don't know Taz. I only connect to my husbands MAC across Wifi. I have no idea about NAS or SMB and neither does my husband. Sorry. I am a very basic computer user.

I think I see. When you connect to the other computer over WiFi it is using SMB for the connection. I am curious is somehow that might be causing the crash. Maybe try not connecting to the other computer for a few days and see if the crashes stop.

Forgot to mention, restart your computer and don't connect to the other computer. By the way, what macOS version is the other computer running?

The other computer is on Mojave, the same as I am. I will give this a go. :)
