upgrade Question

I am currently on ElCapitan 10.11.6 Can I upgrade to 12?

El Capitan is macOS not iOS. If you are on iOS 11 you can only upgrade to the latest iOS available for your iOS device. If it is a Mac. You can upgrade if your Mac supports it or you can use some patch like from dosdude1. Although 10.13 High Sierra makes more sense than 10.12 Sierra.

Many older Macs can not go further than ElCapitan.
IMO I would stop at El Capitan 10.11 - I know of no software programs that will not work. Why did you want Sierra, 10.12?
