    Aspect ratio problems - plugin monitor

    I got a new HP Elite E231i (23") monitor for Christmas. My Macbook Pro is 13" and has a 16:9 ratio. As soon as I plug in the Elite monitor (which has the same ratio) - the aspect ratio on my Macbook shrinks and the ratio on the monitor is stretched out of proportion. Please can someone advise me...
