Can someone tell me if 1 GB RAM works in an Emac G4 1,42 and if it has to be installed in pairs for optimal speed?

RAM PC 2700 - 333 or PC 3200 - 400

TIA

Should take up to 2GB.

I don't think you get a speed increase for matched pairs, but if you put in mixed speeds, 333Mhz and 400Mhz eg, your (and every other computer) emac will run at the lower speed.

that emac takes up to 1GB pc2700 or 3200 sticks unbuffered non EEC 184-pin dimms in two slots allowing for a total of 2GB, apple says it'll only take 1GB but it can take 2GB, it does not run dual channel, no g4 mac ever did.

Sorry to dredge up a slightly-old thread, but I didn't think something this simple would be worth making a whole new one over:

I'm using a 1Ghz G4 eMac, with 768MB of RAM. This is the older system using PC133 ram.

What my question is, is whether or not anyone thinks it's worth it to take out the 256MB module and install a 512MB module instead. I can get a discount on the ram at work, but it'd still be around the $85-$100 range.

For a 3-year computer...I dunno....

Not for $85. You would see some speed improvement, but I don't think it would justify that much money for the amount of performance you'd get.
