10.8 on MacbookPro2,1 (X1600) with GPU Acceleration?

Tried macOS Extractor out on my old MacbookPro 2,1. Installation went great, I've got 10.8.5 running on the system, however there's no graphical acceleration. Usage is painful with animations.

I have inferred from my reading that 10.8.x would support GPU acceleration - and is essentially the last OS release to have GPU acceleration for such a model as the MacbookPro 2,1. Unfortunately after even running the ATI Kexts.pkg installer, there is still no GPU acceleration.

Any thoughts?
