IOS

* Setting up 1Password on iPad- According to this article (https://support.1password.com/how-dropbox-syncs/) you don’t need the DropBox app installed on your iOS device to be synced with Dropbox. In my case, I all ready had DropBox installed on my iPad. I downloaded 1Password, started it up, told it I all ready had a DropBox vault, and it linked to it. Then it asked for my Master Password. The only slightly confusing thing for me is that it opened on my ipad to a blank favorites page. Selecting the vault icon (two stacked squares) revealed the info I was used to seeing.

* Setting up the Safari to make use of 1P on iOS If you just install 1P on IOS you’ll find that when you click on a login in the 1P window, that iP will launch it’s own browser and log you in to the appropriate website. This is not ideal as the 1P browser does not include the functionality of Safari. As is, you could manually copy/paste passwords from 1P into Safari, but we can do better than this. 1. Launch Safari.
Tap the share button (rectangle with up arrow). On the iPhone find it at the middle of the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen), while on the iPad find it on the top right of the Safari Page.
2. Tap the 3 dot, “more” icon. You may have to slide the different icons to the left to find it.
3. Scroll down the list until you find 1Password and turn it on. If you hold the 3 horizontal lines to the right of the 1Password section, 1P can be scrolled to the top of the list. Hit “done”.

1. In Safari, at the web site you’d to log in at, pull up the login page, with the blanks where the login info must be inserted.
2. In Safari, tap on the share icon. If you have moved 1P to the top of the list as per the previous section (Enable the 1P Extension), 1P icon should be visible in the activity list. If not scroll the list until you find it.
3. Tap the 1P icon, enter the Master Password. 1P will open and display the list of 1P logins. Tap the appropriate login and 1P will fill in the required info name/email+ password. Close out the web site login page by finishing the login process (hit "enter or whatever) and you should be good to go.

PC

* Setting up 1Password on PC- If this is the last item to be synched up, install Dropbox on your PC, verify you have it synched with your existing Dropbox account. Download the PC version, launch it, in the choices, tell it you’ve all ready used 1P. Navigate to your Dropbox folder and open the Apps>1Password folder. 1P will ask for the Master Password and launch in trial mode until enter the Windows license key. (In Windows 1Password, select Help>Enter License Key.

Tips and Misc Info

* 1Password Password can be designated as “words” or “characters”. I prefer using words with spaces. Some Log in requirements are not happy with words and particularly not spaces because they either forbid spaces or require a mix of upper and lower case letters and/or a number or special (@,!) character. This is not an automatic option in 1P if “word passwords” are selected. For this case, choose “characters” or create a word password and manually alter it to meet the web site’s requirements.
Fortunately when you interact with a web page login data and you have the 1P browser extension installed, 1P will monitor these changes and ask if you want to update 1P. The answer would be yes.

* Use the 1Password browser extension to generate new passwords when changing password on a web page. Log into the website, navigate to the change password page, usually found under Settings. If the site asks for your original password, and of course you don’t have it memorized, use the next section to do this. Then in your browser (I use Firefox), click on the 1P icon. In the dropdown window, select Password Generator. Select your parameters, and use the fill button to conveniently add the new password to the site and finish there.

If you like to keep a copy of a password somewhere outside of 1P, it’s not convenient to do this at this moment. If you try to copy the password while it’s being generated, the window may disappear on you. It’s best to finish the process, then if you want to keep an copy of the password, you can reveal it in 1Password to copy and paste.

Email Logins: How do you log into your email with 1password?

I've found that if I enter the info as an email, I don't see a way to use this portion of the program to actually log into my email. Maybe I've missed it but, or it's operator error, I don't see a place to enter a website address such as https://mail.google.com for an email.

Instead if I categorize and enter this email info as a "login", then I am able to use the 1P browser extension (using Firefox) to automatically navigate to gmail, and log into my email address. Is this the way it should be accomplished or is there another way actually using the email category?

My dissapointment with 1 Password is that (I don't think) there is a Safari extension for iOS, and apparantly you can't just tap on a 1Password login and sign into a web site via Safari. instead it launches it's own browser which is not as good IMO as using Safari. Can anyone add to this? Thanks.

This is correct. I use the extension all the time in iOS Safari. The one slight difference from desktop is that on desktop when you select credentials 1password will fill and AND submit the web page. In iOS, however, it only fills in the credentials and then you have to submit the webpage. It is very minor, but I mention it because it threw me off the first few times I used it as I kept waiting for the page to log in and nothing happened.

Got it thanks. I'll include this info in the first post.

One thing I'm seeing is that although I've told 1P to remain open for 10 minutes after I've put in the Master Password, when using the Safari Sharing feature to log in with 1P, there it requires me to add the master password although 1P is still open. This is just an observation, not a big deal, probably a security matter, but is there a way around that? If not, that's ok.

If you are bored, here is another question. I got the impression that the DropBox App does not have to installed on your iOS device to work, something I read during the 1P install process. It just so happens, I have Drop Box installed on my iPad, and everything is working fine and I've noted there is a 1P folder located in my iOS DropBox App.

However, I'll assume that if you don't have Drop Box installed on your iPad, then if it was to work, if indeed it does work this way, you'd need to be online, for 1P to access the vault located on Drop Box? I don't know, just trying to nail down this functionality aspect of 1P.

The iPad app stores its own copy of the vault. You only need to be online to sync your iPad's vault to a copy of the vault stored on Dropbox. That's how the OS X app works too. The Dropbox vault is just a vessel for syncing the vaults on your different devices.

So if you don't have the DropBox App installed on your iOS device, 1P will establish a local vault, I assume attached to the 1P app? Thanks!

There are quite a few iOS apps that now support the 1Password extension. The only one I have from this list is Transmit. It works for some sites, others are flaky.

Is anyone using Secure Notes in 1Password? It's not clear to me how it works. The article makes it sound like you are creating a note through 1Password that exists within 1P, but when I create a Secure Note, it wants me to drag a file, say a Pages or a TextEdit file to it and then shows it as an attachment. Does this mean it is encrypting the file? Then if this file still resides out on your hard drive somewhere, has it been altered so that if you move it somewhere else, is it still functional? Right now, I've closed 1Password and will see what happens when I try to open this note with 1Password closed. Thanks!

Update: dragging this document into the Secure Note area of 1Password seems to have no effect on my ability to open it up. I'm confuse how this is supposed to work. :-\

Never mind, I think I got it. You can add sections where text can be added within the secure note. I don't know why you'd want to drag a file to it as an attachment unless it is to remind you of a related file.

I've just installed the latest version of 1Password + the browser extension and I'm pretty happy with both so far, but for some reason the autofill feature doesn't work with this forum although the data have been stored correctly. No issues with any other site. How am I supposed to enter (or amend) my data exactly? Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I managed to do that. When you click on the "Login" button you get a pop-up and 1Password wrongly assumes that the login details have to be entered into forums.macrumors.com. This is not the case as the login page address is forum.macrumors.com/login/. So you have to login from there and 1Password will save your details + the correct login URL page.

You're talking about when your are prompted for your password at the Mac App Store or iTunes Store, somewhere like that outside of Safari? There may be some way to autofill, but I have not found it. What I do, which works every time, is go up to the menu bar to the 1Password helper, choose "Logins", which produces a long list of all my logins, scroll down to the AppleID login, position the cursor next to the password field and the option "copy" appears next to the password, which I then click. Then back to the MAS dialog box and CMD-V to paste it in. It takes longer to describe the process than actually do it.

I've had uneven success with this approach, which may be both OS version and OS subversion dependent (and 1Password version dependent). Providing your Apple ID information to Apple apps has always seemed to me to be something that the Keychain app should automatically deal with, or at least be user-configured to deal with, but for whatever reason it doesn't seem to be able to. Does anyone know if the Keychain-in-the-Cloud handles this?

Now that I have Touch ID turned on with 1Password, (an app that supports touch id) it really shines for use on my iOS devices.
