Today I ran Software Update on my machine to get another package when I saw 2 versions of 10.3.8. One was 14.6 MB, the other 27.7 MB. I re-ran it and only the 27.7 MB package showed up. Did Apple release a patched verion of 10.3.8 to fix the problem with the fans that 10.3.8 introduced?

Updates can be different sizes based on your hardware, i.e. laptop vs desktop, etc. Sounds like Software Update had a brain fart and was confused about your machine, momentarily. Then again, maybe they had a glitch in their update database.

Anyway, there's only one 10.3.8 update.

same here

I updated both my wife's and my Powerbooks G4, her's 15" Ti 1Ghz Superdrive, and mine 12" Al 1.33Ghz Combo via software update and I noticed that in her SU that it's 16.6 MB or something like that, while on mine it's the normal 28.8 via SU. Anyways, I updated both as said, her's with the 16.6MB update and mine with the normal, just to see what'll happen. I know I'm taking a risk, but why not? After all, all data are backed up. Anyways, no problems on hers or mine, only I got a few pop-ups on Safari since then, but not on hers. Hmmmm...... wonder what's up with the new update?

The strange thing was that in the morning the update was 14.6 MB all morning, but then it changed to the 27.7 MB later in the day.
