iM 4,1-14,4 2007 Imac. Pulled out of storage.

I pulled an old 2007 Imac out and put El Capitan on it. It only has 4GB of RAM, a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo and a 500HB HDD.

I've been working on the imac for the past several hours. It's nice to find out what you need to do and it works like it's supposed to. 🤓

It's just really not a good idea - even when your machine is old because there's still the risk of malicious behaviour...

Why Block Serial Number When Displaying About This Mac Window

The Serial number is used a part of the crypto key when Mac's (and Hacks) access any of Apples on-line services (iMessage, iCloud, iTunes .. etc) ... If Apples servers detect that two (or more) systems are accessing their systems with the same S/N then the associated iCloud account and system ID's are automatically blocked.

Are serial # of 17yo Macs in demand?

My 2007 iMac is the 17 inch model with 2 GB ram..upgradeable to 3.

Only have 10.9 on the HD but usually run it from an external SSD with MX-Linux. The updates come thru almost daily. But that can cause a prob with the small amount of ram..though they taught me a fix that flushes it out if it runs out of room during an update.

Thought I'd mention..in case you wanna try a Linux distro on it.

If you're missing the startup chime - try holding CMD + OPT + P + R after booting.

With a 64 bit CPU and 64 bit EFI you might be able to install a newer operating system with OCLP.
