I have a 2012 MacBook Pro I went to use it about a week ago and it would not boot. Not being super technical I assumed it was toast and bought 2019 MacBook Pro 13 in. In my business can not be with out a laptop.
Today a mac friend told me to try booting it with ctrl, option and power pressed together. The first time it booted to the login screen but the trackpad did not work. I shut it down by holding down the power button and then rebooted without holding down the ctrl and option keys. It booted right up and looks fine.

What happened? Can I trust it? Not sure what to do. My friend said his 2012 MacBook Pro retina did the same thing. He was using it closed the lid and hours later went to use it and it was dead. He booted using ctrl, option and power pressed together. His booted into recovery mode and restored from backup.
