I'm interested in an SSD upgrade for my 2015 rmbp 8/256. There appear to be upgrade options from OWC and MCETech respectively:

https://store.mcetech.com/mm/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=1TBPCIESSD-2015

However, I've read lots of complaints about overheating and slow performance from the OWC SSD 1TB version, and the MCETech version appears to be slower than the stock SSD 256 gb drive.

Questions:
1. does anyone on the forum have experience with either? I want to know if some of the problems with the OWC drive are rare (people tend to post complaints rather than share positive experiences) or commonplace.

2. is the performance downgrade noticeable in day to day performance? Perhaps the bottleneck/s is/are elsewhere such as with the usb ports?

Thanks

The usb ports will not be a bottleneck unless you are copying from or to a usb drive.

The lower read and write speed of the SSD may not be noticeable unless you are using apps that perform a lot of read and write operations.
