This started recently. The MBP is asleep all night in my backpack and when I get to work and open the lid it shows the battery is dead and I need to plug it in (Black screen with battery and power cord). If I plug the MBP into the charger and hit the power button it will boot and show that the battery is not dead but have plenty of charge (for example this morning it had 82% once booted).

I've tried to reset the SMC and boot into safe mode like some articles suggested. But it continues. After the first boot in the morning, it will boot fine the rest of the day until the next morning.

Some things that have changed recently:
- I did add Windows via bootcamp (does this have any effect on this?)

Thanks.

MacBookPro Late-2016 13" (256GB, 2.9GHz i5, 16GB RAM) has USB-C ?

Anyway, did you try to find out what is it doing in sleep mode?

Also rather than just closing the lid, try using the Sleep command next time.

So an update:
After resetting the PRAM and SMC a few times and no results. I deleted the bootcamp partition and the MBP is now booting consistently on battery.

Something to do with Bootcamp is my guess.
