2019 iMac: Crucial RAM upgrade?

I've got a 2019 27" iMac and looking to upgrade the ram. I've read through replies here and seen a few people suggest grabbing this 32GB kit and adding it to the 8GB factory for a total of 40GB. However, Crucial is saying it's not supported. They're showing only these 8GB or 16GB kits work.

What gives?

The 32 GB kit will work just fine. I just ordered one for my new 2019 27" iMac and it works flawlessly, added to the existing 8 GB. I looked at the specs and they are exactly what I ordered (DDR4-2666, PC4-21300, CL19). I ordered mine from NewEgg since Crucial was out of stock on their own site. Was also tax-free for me on NewEgg, which was an added bonus.

Just seems strange. If it works without issue, why wouldn't Crucial say so? I'm sure they'd like to sell more ram.

I don't even try to use their advisor anymore. It has always been iffy on Mac compatibility, especially the iMacs.

I have 2 of those 32GB kits in my 2019 iMac. 1 kit in my wife's Mac Mini more recently.
Absolutely zero issues at all.

Ever since memory controllers started being integrated into the CPU, I have matched RAM speed/amount based off of the CPU and I've only ever had 1 bad experience because 1 stick of RAM was bad.
You can completely choose a different brand if that gives piece of mind, I'm just stating my machine does not get turned off and is used daily and I have yet to have a bad experience with this computer.

I have never had any issues using Crucial RAM in any of my Macs. The hardest part right now is finding a store that has them in stock at a decent price, especially for the latest iMacs and Mac mini.

I'm curious as to why Crucial is being so restrictive with the 2019 iMac spec.

If you compare their support pages for the 2019 iMac vs. the 2018 mini, the latter has many more options, despite the fact that both use the same memory.

The Hynix modules installed in my iMac from the factory have the same part number as those from the mini, according to my System Profiler report.

I bought this exact kit from Amazon for my new 2019 27" iMac about 6 weeks ago and it works like a charm. I did all of the research like you and saw all of the claims that it would work vs. what Crucial said would/would not work and was a bit confused by it all. In the end this kit is just fine. I am now sitting at 40GB of RAM (8GB of factory RAM and 32GB of Crucial) @2667 MHz.

Yep.

I would say as long as the pairs are the same size and brand.

So:

Slot A: stock 4 GB
Slot B: 16 GB Crucial
Slot C: stock 4 GB
Slot D: 16 GB Crucial

this ensures the two SODIMMs can operate in banks. I didn't check the stock modules the
last time I openen the iMac's memory bay of my 2019 iMac. Think Apple is using Hynix.

Amazon has this RAM as a Cyber Monday deal for $93.99. That is the best price that I have seen on this.
