Made this just for fun based on rumours and some speculation (although need help adding the right specs)…
Would Apple make the next MacBook a premium model again? It could return to an entry level offering to compete with chromebooks.
In terms of naming, yeah it would make more sense for the entry level to be called MacBook. Maybe they could call the coming white MacBook the MacBook Air, increase the price, and then give a slight spec upgrade to the old Air and rebrand it as MacBook ?
There might be a technical limitation that only allows 32 GB of RAM but there is no technical reason to not allow an 8 TB SSD. So I agree and think it is unlikely that Apple would change that spec from the Intel 16” MacBook Pro.
And if Apple is using LPDDR5 then the 32 GB limit should be temporary.
While you are at it notice that the 4-port Intel 13” MacBook Pro has a 4 TB option.
I pretty much agree, with the exception that I don’t think the MBA will be getting a $100 price drop going into its second year on sale, they don’t seem to do that any more outside of iPhones… I also think your core counts on the 14/16 are a little optimistic, most likely seems to be the 10 core rumour (8/2 big/little)
that $2,000 Pro is jumping out at me. would probably be happy with the $1,500 MacBook but not interested if it's 13". Would love a 16" but seems overkill just to get a bigger display. so 14" is a nice middleground.
8 cores, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD is the minimum for me. the bigger the screen the better. everything else i don't care about except price. $2,000 is probably my limit.

I do not understand why they would have 2 computers similar as "Macbook" and Macbook Air.
Macbook Air are already slim today. Which may be updated in 2022.
Macbook that gets the new design which is slim.
Then what will separate them? Hardware. Why not have one computer instead of 2 similar ones which have more choice for choosing upgrade possibilities.
I don't think the Macbook Air is going to get cheaper with $100.

It might be that eventually the colourful MacBook design will take the place of the MacBook Air, but like the rMBA it’s not going to debut at $999, so it comes in at a slight premium to start with, while the MBA continues on to cover the $999 price point.
The problem is this leaves a huge price gap between the Air and the Pro which Apple typically avoids across their whole product lineup. Unless of course Apple reduce the Pro entry price, or increase the Air entry price by a lot; neither of which I think they'd do.
Considering the 2-port 13" Pro filled that gap quite well, I don't see why a low-end 14" Pro couldn't also fill that gap.
Some of the nonsense we're dealing with today was features like the touch bar initially adding 200$ to the 13" Pro, creating the gap in the first place.
We don't know what the pricing will be until Apple launches the products.

Macbook Air M1 - 999 - $2049.
Macbook Pro 13" M1 - 1299 - $2299.
Macbook Pro 16" Intel - 2399 - $6699.
I don't think Apple will have any problems with new pricing.
Apple has many reasons to raise the price of the new computers coming, such as redesign, new display, "new" ARM processor.
Then we must have the usual Apple tax on RAM and SSD. I think all computers start with 8GB ram and 256GB SSD.
My thoughts on your proposals are that the 'MacBook' as you have called it will also start with 8 GB RAM and that the old MBA will only have one configuration (probably the 8 CPU cores/8 GPU cores due to a mature process) with the extra SSD available as a BTO option.
I also think that if the new MBPs do launch with an M1X chip followed by a 'low end' MB/MBA with an M2 then we will see a MBP bump to M2X fairly soon (next Summer?).

They bumped the 16" MBP to 16/512 as the base config. I don't see that changing.
Personally, I'd like to see a 15/16" MBA for consumers who may want a larger display, but don't necessarily need the beefier CPU.

What if someone wants a 13” MBP? I certainly don’t want a 15”-16” notebook. A 15” MacBook Air would be a new category.
You can get a 13” Air or a 14” pro. There’s just no need for so much duplication with Apple Silicon. IMO the perfect lineup from here would be 13” MBA ($999) 15” MBP ($1,499) 17” MBP ($1,999). That would cover all use cases pretty neatly in just 3 models.
If I want a 13” MacBook I can’t get it with more than 2 TB/USB4 ports or with a higher quality display than the Air? Why doesn’t the rumored 14” MacBook Pro fit into your scheme?

Why could a 13” Air not have 3TB ports (same as the upcoming Pros) and it’s already meant to be getting a mini LED display too.
In my scheme the 14” becomes a 15”
