I am accepting any recommendations/reviews/thoughts about other 24-inch LCD displays or even HDTV's. Apparently the Dell 2405/2407 aren't that good for component video. Currently I am leaning towards the BenQ FP241WZ, so if anybody can offer thoughts about it, please post!!!

How is the Dell UltraSharp 2407 or 2405 for console gaming?

I know Mac users here got one since it is such a nice display and Dell's inexpensive, but how many use it for console gaming?

I hear it works well the X-Box 360 in its high definition glory, although 1080p requires the VGA cable.

I cannot find too much information about how the display handles older consoles like the PS2 and GameCube. So, can anybody tell me about how it works with the PS2 and GameCube and even the Wii? Preferably over S-Video for the PS2 and component cables for both the GameCube and Wii.

Thanks.

EDIT: I decided to open this up to other suggestions for 24" LCD's or even HDTV's similar in price.

Not sure about console gaming, but my 2407WFP is great for gaming on the Mac and watching DVDs. Absolutely gorgeous and brilliant looking LCD. :)

I use an older Dell Ultrasharp 18" monitor for my Mini -works great.

I mentioned in a console post that you need to make sure you have the right cabling. If you are going to use an XB360, use the MS VGA cable for it, not some cheap third party.

Use only quality cables for the consoles... You can use the cables that come with the panel for your computer.

For PS3 (780p and 1080i/p) use HDMI, for PS2, GameCube, and Wii, use component (480p)...

I have the 2407 and it works great with the 360, the PS3 (via HDMI > DVI cable) and my mac.

However. the composite input looks like crap with my Wii. I have given away my gamecube and PS2 so I can't comment on those.

It also works well with my Mac Pro as a second monitor to my 30" Cinema.

It's a nice monitor, especially for the price.

My friend's 20" Dell UltraSharp just died on him, so he ordered the 24" and it will be here shortly. I'll be able to check it out in about a week, but will ask him how it is when he gets it in.

Please do. If he wouldn't mind testing a few consoles, that would be appreciated. I'm not concerned about using it as a computer display at all. It will solely be for my game consoles.

Right now, I wonder how well it handles the 360/Wii/GameCube over component cables and the PS2 with S-Video.

I have a video upscaler I've been using on my Samsung 17-inch display, so there's no problem in me trying to upscale a shoddy composite or S-Video device.

So far, I've heard good things about the 360 with either component or VGA. Not too much about the S-video or composite signals with older consoles though.

Dell 2407fpw looks very good with the 360 connected via VGA, but only in my experience if you set the screen to either 1280x768 or 1280x720 or 1366x768.

However when I enable 1080p (1920x1080), there is slight banding on the bottom half of the screen. It could be my VGA cable but the same thing happens when I tried 2 different xbox 360's.

Component on the 2407fpw, looks like CRAP no matter what source you use on it. Very dissapointing.

PS3 via HDMI to DVI looks perfect at 1080p

As for computers.

The VGA & DVI ports both look near identical when I hooked them up to my Mac Pro via either dvi or dvi-vga dongle.

Well, that's disappointing. I'm really feeling the BenQ FP241WZ now.

I'm only having trouble finding any information about the Wii for that display. The S-Video Sega Saturn and GameCube via component sound and look acceptable for my usage.
