iPhone 15 Pro 24 megapixels?

So the standard default size for photos is now 24 megapixels? How much space will this use compared to the 12 megapixels? Will there be an option to still use 12 megapixels to reduce file size? How much better will photos actually look compared to the previous 12 megapixel standard? Could the 14 pro technically do this and this is a software locked feature? So many questions!
