Over here in Tokyo, we can get an iPad from softbank on a credit agreement, so pay 24 monthly payments instead of the lump sum at the start. This makes the extra for 3G option just 500 yen more a month than the regular (Don't need to sign up for a data contract for this either!).

So I am thinking if it is just a little more for the 3G, will it be worth it? what are the extra features of the 3G that are missing in the wifi? GPS? I don't care so much for the access now as i have hacked my iPhone to share it's 3G with my notebook and will do the same for the iPad. But I am just curious if I will kick myself down the road if I just get the wifi???

It could be useful if I am abroad to get a sim card and just put it in...

Thoughts???

that's right, XE.com is great!

16GB wifi costs 2220 yen a month, 64GB wifi is 3050 yen a month.

Actually the 3G option I was looking at is with a prepaid plan. I need to check out how that works. I assume a none contract, but just top up the card as and when I need.

Here is the chart detailing the costs.
