I got a cell phone and recorded some movies and put them on my computer and want to share them with people.

But they are in a format, movie_001.3g2, and QuickTime 7 plays the .3g2 files but my friends dont have QuickTime.

So, how can I convert, FOR FREE, the .3g2 file to .mov? Mac or Windows...

In Quicktime you can just go to File>Export and then just choose any format that you want. I have no idea if it will work with that kind of a file though.

If that doesn't work you can try this: http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0067.html

It tells you how to convert .3gpp which I believe is the same as .3g2, to an avi.

But none of them detect 3g2 videos except QuickTime Pro and I need something FREE. They all detect 3gp though.

@dotdotdot,

What cellular did you use to get that format?? Didnt think there was any that did .3gp version 2.

I dont think there is any free software that'll help; for either platform. You may have to look to QuickTime Pro. :(

I thought quicktime 7 (non-pro) would play any 3g files...

3rd-Party Professional Mac and PC Authoring Tools
Because 3GPP and 3GPP2 are part of the QuickTime architecture, applications built on top of QuickTime inherit the ability to author and playback 3GPP and 3GPP2 content.

If you can play them on Quicktime, why can't they?

Tell them to download iTunes, which quicktime comes with, and then they'll be able to watch the videos as well. And if they want, which I doubt very much, they can uninstall iTunes while still keeping Quicktime.
