Hi

Recently I set up a new G4 Quicksilver (Dual800) web server running FMPro Unlimited (Normal OSX.12) and the other day I was watchin simpsons and tryin to work out what to do with my spare 9600 350 and G3 266. So then I decided to use them as web servers, the G3 needs some work done to it due to it being tinkered with in the past. So, I want to make the 9600 in to a web server which I have managed to do with no problem. This is the current machine spec:

Apple PowerMac 9600 604e 350mhz
384mb RAM
100bs-t Ethernet Card / 10bs-t Built-in Ethernet
4gb HD (Internal SCSI 1) 5400rpm
3x 2gb HD (External SCSI 2 Card) in Raid Level 1 Config (All 5400rpm)

and this is what I need to know:

a) How many users can be sustained at once?
b) Can somebody explain how to set up a DNS server on OSX or OS9
c) Any upgrade ideas? This is what I have planned:
i) G3 450mhz Upgrade PCI Card
ii) 2x 18.4 SCSI 2 10025rpm Hard Disks in Raid 1 Config
iii) 2x 512mb Ram Sticks
iv) 2 new Ethernet 100bs-t to share load each with seperate IPs (OSX)

Thanks for any help! (ensignparis@brooklineuk.com

Ha ha haaa!
Quid Pro Quo

Hmm... strange, their server's down. And here I thought it was still available!

I'm running a Quadra 800 as a web server with MacOS 8.1 and Quid Pro Quo and the old baby's doing just fine...

We run a webserver on a 9600

Ensign Paris.

At work we run a 9600 as a webserver for kd-online.de.

There is a LOT of traffic on this server.

It has, as far as I know, Webstar running on it. If you like to get more details, you can email our administrator.

As an expieriment I got my old Mac SE to host a text only website. It worked without a hitch.

Classic

Hi

Thanks for the info, I think I will go ahead with my plan!

When the 9600 is up and running I am thinking of using one of my old Mac Classics into a server, just got to find a easy way of getting Ethernet on it without spending money!

SCSI to Ethernet

I don't really know where to buy those, but they exist. It gives a fair speed by converting the SCSI to an ethernet connection.

I have got a Local Talk to Ethernet adapter but I can guess that would be a slow as hell and therefore will look for a SCSI one!
