A blog platform which pays me and not the platform

Hi guys

Id really like to start a blog and although this is a long way away, Id like to start on one which I earn the money from and not the hoster eg. Wordpress or Blogger.

Im looking at squarespace as design seems very straightforward and they serve host but tbh Im clueless so any suggestions/direction would be great.
