For example, if I write r/mac followed by a space, and specifically in the Obsidian app, it gets replaced with [r/mac](https://reddit.com/r/mac). A regex match would be (r/.*) and the replacement would be [$1](https:/reddit.com$1). I tried Espanso but for some reason regex doesn't work and I filed a bug report.

Have you tried Typinator? It allows per-app expansions, and also appears to support regular expressions (though I don't use them).

I'm using an older version, so it might be slightly different in the latest.

Click on the "Action" icon in the toolbar, go to the "Sets" sub-menu and then to "Application Settings". You can assign sets to applications there.

Welp, I got Espanso working. It turns out I had troubleshooted it poorly.
