I'm not an app developer so this question may sound insane, or not.

Is it possible to access the file directory of your home mac via a remote web browser. Say you were at work and you wanted to access your home files on your mac at home. Is it possible to set up your home Mac to allow a remote browser to access it.

That way your iPhone safari web browser could theoretically browse files on your home mac.

BTW does every iPhone have an IP address? static? dynamic?

Yes, you sure can. You need to setup a program on your home machine that will allow you to file browse via http.

One way would be to install apache httpd and turn ON Directory Browsing in the config.

Note: you'll want to secure it using a .htpasswd file, and run it on another port other than 80.

If you're behind a firewall or NAT you'll need to configure it to let people access your mac.

iPhone Remote

Hey all: I stumbled on this the other day and I think this is what you are looking for. The application is called iPhone Remote, and it runs on your mac and you can access your files on it from your iPhone amongst a plethora of other information and other goodies. You can find the app here: http://telekinesis.googlecode.com/files/iPhoneRemote_0.9.21.zip

It was found on google code under the project named telekinesis..

and btw every iPhone has settings where you can decide wether or not it has DCHP, static, VPN and a bunch of other networking settings. they are under settings>general>network> VPN>settings and there you can set L2TP & PPTP or
settings>wi-fi>(select a network)> and there you can set DHCP, BootP, and Static...

Enjoy

You should also check out soonr. It will let you access files, but I like it because it lets me do skype chat as well.
