iPad micro SIM in iPhone

I was wondering whether it was possible to use the AT&T micro SIM that comes with the iPad as a data-only one in the iPhone. I'm visiting the U.S. for 8 weeks this summer and have an unlocked iPhone. The iPad data plan looks quite attractive to me as I don't want to make phone calls at all…

Thanks!

When the new iPhone 4 was announced I thought that this micro SIM adapters could become usefull since iPhone 4 uses micro SIM too, so I found these site http://www.gomicrosim.com and tryed to order a 5 adapters. I have receive it today and made a little video review of it:
http://bit.ly/aUfcY9

I must say it's a cool thing and should allow me to use micro SIM in standard devices.
I suggest you guys to try it out, its relatively cheap and worth the money.

Sim cards

According to people in the know, its been confirmed from multiple sources that the new micro-SIM cards that Apple is using in the iPad are identical to the regular SIM cards we use today. The only difference is that the plastic is "shaved down" to make it a smaller form factor. But the components are virtually the exact same.

Many people have brought up the fact that you could shave down your current iPhone's SIM card (or whatever smartphone you use w unlimited data) & use that card in your iPad, thus eliminating the need to pay AT&T an extra $30 on top of the data plan you already have with your phone. The only problem is, how would you go back & put that card in your iPhone again. You couldnt.

BUT. A more exciting "what if" to me would be going the other way, for say, someone that didnt already have AT&T phone service, & using the iPad's micro-SIM card inside a plastic "blank shell" adapter that made it into a regular sized SIM card, then using that card with an unlocked iPhone (or other unlocked smartphone) to have an always on data-only connection with a VoIP app (or something like Google Voice w Gizmo5). Meaning for a mere $30 a month, you could technically be able to use your iPad & iPhone with the same SIM card, switching between the two when its necessary (for pocketability), to have data service & voice service, thus eliminating a costly cell phone bill while being contract free.

This wouldnt work for everyone, but for many many people who only use a little bit of voice & a lot more data every month, this would be an awesome alternative. using the iPad w a bluetooth headset when you're at home & switching to the iPhone when you need something that fits in the pocket.

Only problem is, I havent seen any micro-SIM adapters on the market. But how hard could that be?? All someone would have t do is make a hollowed out regular SIM card that you could slide in or snap in your micro-SIM card.

The only difference is that the plastic is "shaved down" to make it a smaller and compact enough to fit into the case.

Adapter for micro-SIM to make full size SIM?

Were there any international fees from Pay Pal or credit card?

Yaa there are many adapters to convert micro sim into full size sim but that requires a special software embedded into it..

Does have the sticky part on it? I ordered one and it seems like it won't work after the stickyness is gone.

would one use a russian, ukrain or chinese adapter..

... made of metal in his iPhone? not me.
why all mobile-carriers like vodaphone, o2 or t-mobile are using the patented, made in germany version?
because they tested the adapter and it works. what you do if the adapter get stuck in your iPhone? you are in trouble for shure.
also http://www.pdaplaza.ca/ is selling the high quality german adapter - and so http://www.microsim-shop.com does.

I got my adapter from http://www.buy-microsim.com
Looks like they offer the cheapest one among many others competitors. Also, with free worldwide shipping. I asked them about manufacturer before placing order, they also mentioned German company with patented technology. Don't know is it true, but their adapter fit well to my phone, and I have no complaints.

A german company has patented a piece of plastic the shape of a sim card with a bit cut out the middle?

I think not.

All you new posters are a joke.
You think you can come on this site, register a name and advertise your crappy product without us noticing that it's just a ploy to sell your stuff?
People have been making templates from old used credit cards that work just fine so stop with the German Patent BS.

These self-made crappy adapter from used credit card can damage the SIM card contact in your phone. Don't be to naive that MacGyver will always solve real-life problem. Search on Internet - there are many cases like this. Will you take responsibility for giving such advices?

I DIY (cut) a regular SIM to fit a Micro SIM all held together with tape. Works fine. The SIM tray keeps it in place in the phone.

BTW, I did a really ***** job cutting it. It still worked.

Adapter to move from iPhone 3G to 4?

Does anybody know if these adapters will work to move a micro sim from an iPhone 4 to a 3G (both NOT jailbroken)? If so, that will let me keep my 3G as a backup phone in case something happens to the new one.

Thanks!

I bought an adapter, and for some reason it doesn't work when I try to use the microsim from my iPhone 4 in my 3GS.

It works for me. I am using iPhone 4 SIM in 3GS and iPad SIM in iPhone 4 for data only.

iPhone 3GS - no changes in Network settings

iPhone 4 - change APN to broadband.
