After unsuccessfully trying to install big sur on a mac Airbook (Early 2014) os x 10.9.5, because of a bad internet connection.
I fixed the internet connection did a reinstall of OS X Mavericks, and then successfully installed Big Sur, but when I look at About this Mac
under software I still see OS X 10.9.5 (13F1911). Why is this? How can I fix it?
Any help much appreciated.

Hi thanks for your reply.
I managed to start the Big Sur install after downloading it from the App Store, after running for some time I received the following message: "An error occurred applying the software update"
So seemed I should start a new thread for a new problem.
