Since I upgraded to Mojave on my iMac, I've noticed that if I Airdrop an image taken on my iPhone, it ends up as an HEIC format file on my iMac. My iOS version is 12.0 and macOS is 14.0. Is this something in iOS or Mojave that does this?

Default photo format since iOS 11 is HEIC

Hmm...I've only just noticed but I did update iOS and macOS both within the last week. It's affecting me as I often send lots of pictures from my iPhone to my iMac via Airdrop and then I batch process the images on my Imac in Photoshop Elements.

Unfortunately, Photoshop Elements does not recognised HEIC image files. I'll reset the iPhones camera format to 'Most Compatible', which seems to be JPG format. There's also a huge difference in file size between HEIC and JPG images captured on my iPhone, which translates to a difference in image quality.

Really messed me up when it came to Photoshop CS6, since that doesn’t support the file format. I just upgraded to CC though so hopefully there is support?

Otherwise I’ll switch to the old format
