When I use Airplay 2 to stream from an iPad to a Mac mini, does (1) the iPad actually take the audio and then send it to the Mac via a compressed format? Or (2) does the Mac realize it's just being streamed anyways so it should just grab the stream directly from apple and skip the Airplay transmission. With that method, the iPad would just be the controller setting volume, etc. I assume it's (1) but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure.

I believe you are right in thinking it is 1. However if you were streaming to an Apple TV4k I believe it is 2.

I guess it may depend what you have running on you Mac Mini. I’m curious why you stream to a Mac mini?
