AirPod Max's FaceTime Audio Quality

AirPod Max's received a $100 price cut and I'd want to know how is the audio quality of it when used with VoIP like FaceTime Audio.

Would also like to know if audio is sent through Lightning/USB cable when its wired in to an iMac or iPhone/iPad

Nothing over wire unless you use the 3.5mm to lightning.
i have not got any complaints from the receiving party while using them. Pretty good stuff
