AirPods 3: Dictation misses first word(s)

Have the new AirPods 3 and love them. All associated devices are 2021 models running latest software versions.

Having a weird problem in which the microphone consistently doesn't pick up the first word of dictation — e.g., Duolingo Spanish lessons, Google Translate, etc.

Anyone else seeing this? Thanks.
