AirPods Max on someone else’s Apple TV

Using the AirPods Max has been a huge improvement with all devices including our Apple TV 4K. But when visiting my mom, also has an Apple TV 4K, I could not get it to connect to my AirPods Max. I went to the Bluetooth section in AppleTV software, I added myself via my iPhone to be a separate user on her Apple TV, but nothing worked. My regular AirPods were listed on the possible Audio devices on her Apple TV, so clearly it should be possible to have an outsider join, but —- has anyone succeeded in using their AirPods Max with someone else’s Apple TV?

Did you try pairing them like you were doing it for the fist time (vs. just hoping they'd pop up since you added yourself as a user)?
