AirPods mysterious mic ?

Hey
so I just got me the AirPods (finally) and really enjoy them but after listening to music I noticed that when i touch the mic pictured, the sound of the music changes and now im asking myself what does it do ? can't find a description of the AirPods anywhere where it tells me that. Could it be possible we are getting a AirPod noise reduction update or so ?

It’s not a mic. I believe it’s the bass port. When you put a finger over it the sound gets tinny.

I didn’t know that thanks. But I think thats the little hole below where the OP circled but who knows then.
