All emails forwarded to Messages app appearing as individual SMS messages

I have my emails sent as text messages to my 4S with iOS 6. It functioned fine for a long time when all emails received at my email address would be sent to my iphone and received under the same sender. Some time age, all the emails I received would appear as individual text messages, cluttering the my messages inbox.

Can anyone share some wisdom about how to get them in the same folder again? Many thanks.

How are the email set up to be forwarded as text messages?

(Any particular reason for that, out of curiosity, given that emails can simply be received as emails on an iPhone?)
