Nvidia RTX4000 is incredible but it's hobbled by lack of DisplayPort 2.1 for >30Hz 8K and no PCIe 5.0 bus making it more of a monster for GPU compute rather monster gaming GPU. Also, doesn't help that it's having teething issues with magic smoke power delivery.

Will AMD correct these deficiencies with RX7000 while making it more power efficient and price competitive?

More importantly, how close will it get to dethroning the performance of Nvidia RTX4000 in gaming and GPU compute?

My guess is <=$1200 for flagship, yes to DP 2.1 and PCIe 5.0, gaming performance will be close but software stack for GPU compute/Blender/machine learning/etc. still not competitive.

The Internet is 100% disappointed with what was shown yesterday. So far Rx 7000 doesn't really compete with Lovelace. It is barely faster than Ampere.

Not sure how anyone was expecting 4090 performance for 25% less money and power consumption.

That is how the internet works, lol.

I was unimpressed with them showing off metrics based off FSR because it feels like cheating. That isn't 4K it is 1440p (I have the same grip about DLSS). I am curious about their version of Frame Generation though, since they supposedly didn't add hardware to do it like nvidia has.

I think overall the expectations was that it was going to be fairly decent against anything under the 4090.

Here's Jayztwocent's initial take - talking head video. Its a lot quicker then that long video, I'd rather not sit through an hour YT. Hell, I was fast forwarding Jayz.

The price for the RX 7900 XT is well beyond what I'm looking to spend. I'll have to wait and see what a 7600 XT will be priced at.

Isn't $1K vs $1600 37.5% less money? Performance varies from game to game but for one of the popular games currently out, CoD MW2, AMD presentation shows 1.5x faster than 6950xt so that puts it on par if not ahead at 236fps 4K basic and 134fps 4K ultra quality of 4090. Pretty compelling for $600 less, 21% less power consumption and drop in replacement without having to spend more money on new PSU, case, cooling and fire extinguisher. Bonus is you get DP 2.1 for 8K 60Hz productivity while 4090 DP 1.4 is limited to shameful 8K 30Hz.

And that's the problem... it's a gaming card. They could make it 5x faster than a 4090 and draw 10W and it would still be unusable for anything else than games. Lack of CUDA and lack of Nvidia software tools is literally making it a toy. And from a software point of view alone, that's probably never going to change.

Indeed. The lack of a platform independent GPGPU platform just hurts badly

I get what you are saying but I'm willing to bet that 90%+ buyers of 4090 will be workstation people. I wasn't clear enough in my first post and that's my bad cause games have never crossed my mind when I talked about 4090. Octane and V-Ray is where my head is at when ti comes to GPU :)

In all honesty, I do wonder who the customers are. Other then a couple of gamers who want to show off that they spent nearly 2,000 for GPU, its hard to conceive folks wanting to drop that much. Yeah, this past year or so, its been crazy given the lack of supply and high prices but overall spending that much for a gpu is really alien to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had asked a similar question and was told the actual workstation GPUs are a bad deal so those folk are the ones that buy the xx90 tier cards.

As someone who primarily uses my PC for gaming I think what they showed off was great. While my 3080 is a great performer I have already ran into VRAM issues with only 10gb in certain games and VR titles. While I occasionally mess around with things like stable diffusion it’s also something that could easily be ran on my mbp M1 Pro.

The RT is a little disappointing but the crazy raster performance at 600 less than a 4090 and 200 less than a 4080 is still compelling. Seems like a great card for 4K 120hz gaming. I’ll probably get one. So tired of NVIDIA pulling these games with mediocre port specs and proprietary features. I used to run ati back in the day, and rdna3 seems like a nice step forward with some great efficiency and price/perf.

Overall, it seems that AMD is looking to use CPU technology to improve their GPU performance and overall it seems like a good move. Performance is up, but not at the cost of increased power.

Here's the RX7900 XTX vs. the RTX 4080 across various games. The RX7900 XTX at 1,000 dollars is cheaper then the RTX 4080 and its showing itself to be as fast or faster in the YT

I know people want to compare the RX700XTX vs. the 4090, but price and performance its closer to the 4080 and when taken in that line of thought the RX7900 XTX is an excellent deal.

I've yet to stumble upon be similar benchmarks for the 7900XT, though I suspect they'll be close to a 4070 series card

These are not real numbers. Wait for reputable sources.

Another review with results, so maybe these numbers will be considered "real" :p

They're inline with my prior post where the RTX 7600XTX is on par with the RTX 4080 and not the RTX 4090 which I don't think anyone really was expecting
