Any plans for a Gmail app?

I cant stand how the iphone gets everything you send and receive via Gmail... Id like to see an app just check for NEW mail, and not sync with gmail..

Any plans?

i keep holding out hope that we'll see a PUSH gmail announcement, but since a google phone is coming, that seems doubtful. they make that java app for mobile phones, but java apps dont run on the iphone.
