Macro mode isn’t available so what’s the workaround without using third party camera apps?

Lens can’t focus close so there’s no workaround. All you can do is shoot at the closest distance that will still be sharp - then crop it afterwards. Whatever you do, don’t use digital zoom. That’s worse than cropping.
